What can I say, it's always great to get those first turns of the year in! Hunter was in great shape for opening day. The usual was open, Hellgate>Broadway>Kennedy, and the snowmakers did a great job putting down a nice base to ski on. Snow was soft and fluffy in places, hardpack and a little icy in others. Even though my skis had little in the way of usable edges, there was no problem carving turns, until all of the bumps formed that is. Then it was quick feet the rest of the day.
We got out on the hill at about 9:30 and other than a quick lunch at about 1pm, we made it until 3pm at which point my legs screamed "no more". We got in a little less than 24,000' vertical, so it was a good session. By 1pm, Hellgate had gotten really bumped up, and not nice little zipper lines, but big, irregular VW sized bumps with some nasty ruts. Still alot of fun!
Crowds were less than I expected, but there were several runs through the human slalom between 11am and 12:30pm after which the mountain seemed empty. All in all a great way to start 04-05!
Should have some pics to post tomorrow.
