What can I say, it's always great to get those first turns of the year in! Hunter was in great shape for opening day. The usual was open, Hellgate>Broadway>Kennedy, and the snowmakers did a great job putting down a nice base to ski on. Snow was soft and fluffy in places, hardpack and a little icy in others. Even though my skis had little in the way of usable edges, there was no problem carving turns, until all of the bumps formed that is. Then it was quick feet the rest of the day.
We got out on the hill at about 9:30 and other than a quick lunch at about 1pm, we made it until 3pm at which point my legs screamed "no more". We got in a little less than 24,000' vertical, so it was a good session. By 1pm, Hellgate had gotten really bumped up, and not nice little zipper lines, but big, irregular VW sized bumps with some nasty ruts. Still alot of fun!
Crowds were less than I expected, but there were several runs through the human slalom between 11am and 12:30pm after which the mountain seemed empty. All in all a great way to start 04-05!
Should have some pics to post tomorrow.

Jim how could we have missed you? I thought you didn't make it. I was out with my boys who did me proud. They avoided all obstacles and skied the moguls and ice with grace.

What a great 2 days it was. They blew a ton of snow last night and today was much better. 5 degrees warmer and less crowds. The snow was also much nicer. HAv eto give them credit for putting out a great snow product.

The blew Ike and Hunter 1 as well, so we'll have more terrain soon, but I don't know if the snowmakers will be able to do much this week.

We saw you from the lift a few times and I saw Robin briefly at the end of the day. We hooked up with DMC and the crew most of the day before lunch, and after that I was just concentrating on not tripping over myself from exhaustion.

It was exciting to see them turn the guns on Ike so soon after opening, and I figured Sunday would be the better day regarding temps...the added snow must've been a real bonus! I spent the day watching both of my 2 oldest boys star in their last soccer games of the season.

See you next Saturday?
