What Mother Nature takes away, Hunter Mountain gives back!

Does Daylight Savings seem a little unfair to you in the spring? We think so too! Starting on March 11, Hunter Mountain will be open an extra hour on weekends, extending our hours from 8:30am to 5:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays until the season ends! Head up to Hunter Mountain and bring in the spring with an extra hour of skiing and riding!
Say what you want about Hunter.. They know how to run a mountain

I was wondering who would be the first to make accommodations to the new DST date.

I don't recall anyone changing hours in response to DST when it started first week of April, or last week of April back in the 1980's. Since March 11 is still midwinter in terms of snow conditions at many western areas, logic might suggest later opening (control work) and closing (daylight) times.

Mammoth adjusts hours starting around May 1 for spring snow conditions. Closing is moved up to 2 or 3PM, then 1PM in June/July of the big years. Opening is backed up from 8:30AM to 8 or 7:30 by June/July.

Hunter has done a nice job this season.

They managed to stay open through the bad Nov/Dec/early Jan weather and even had several trails open.

When the cold arrived, they blew the utter crap out of the hill and were close to 100% open in 3 weeks.

They have not mowed down every bump line on the hill this year and have finally dedicated a few areas with intermediate pitch to bumps.

When the snows finally came in mid-Feb, they let the powder lie and didn't groom much of anything. They let all that powder get skied off before doing any grooming.

They cleared out a few easily accessible gladed areas and these have been very nice for the past 2 weeks.

Now they decide to stay open later when DST arrives. Nice job!

I'd like to send out props to Jessica Pezak, the marketing director at Hunter. She has been active on many websites asking what folks want and relaying those messages to management. It worked.
