Lots and lots of snow... Way above knee deep while riding...

Unfortunately, wind blown... so not as light as expected...

Very Very cold... but climbing keeps you warm.

Location: Sorry, can't tell
Review: Not sure it was worth the trouble... even tough it looks very accessible...

Above 3000ft, there was some really deep stuff... However, we still need at least 1ft or 2 of snow before things really open up... Now it's just some attrocious bushwacking! But hey, i did spend 6 hours in the woods!

you are an idiot and you are lucky that you made it out of the woods without an injury. I SEE tracks and i cannot believe anyone would even consider trying to ski over there with the current amount of snow. Not only that, you set a bad example that unknowning skiers and riders will follow.

Smarten' Up big jay.

Hey there stranger! Thanks for the feedback?

I'm sorry if i forgot to ask you before i went... But did you follow me 'cause i never mentionned of where i went... But really, what does it matter to you? Scared of loosin' a few inches of precious snow that you and others "local" can enjoy...

There is a good enough base around the Jay area (above 2000ft) that you can ride without hitting anything. The snow was deep. Think mid-tighs if you were walking in it.... sometimes deeper. There is snow and it was safe...

Would you prefer if i were to post a nice google rendering of my trip that was recorded on the GPS?

Redeyes, behave. You can make your point without reducing it to an attack on a personal level.

Meow.

There is (as of Saturday) enough snow behind and on the sides of Jay to pick yourself a good run. Everyone has to make there own choice depending on their skill-level and desire to face risk.

And where we were, steeps and rocks weren't an issue... Think of something that looks like BBP... Birch trees and mellow slope...

i hope that you had a good time. sounds ricter. ever been around and about those beautiful low angle birch glades with out any snow? If you have then i would say that you made a poor decision. if you haven't, well then rip it up, just don't ask for help when you get twisted on some of the enormous hidden dangers that lurk in those areas. the snow pack depth right now is at the very scetchy level. if you are thigh deep in those places, your lucky you didn't break a leg. but what do i know. this has nothing to do with local whathaveyou's it has to do with being smart. patience is very important if you want to enjoy the whole season. otherwise like i said before, go get it cowboy.

This thread has the "wear a helmet/don't wear a helmet" tone to it.

This is the land of personal choice...if BigJay feels there is enough snow in the BC for him and he takes proper personal precautions and accepts responsibility for whatever happens, more power to him. And if experienced friends want to join him, the more the merrier.

But I would feel differently if he persuaded someone else who had no experience to go with him. And to my knowledge BigJay does not do that.

Thanks Jim,

I couldn't have said better myself. :P

I'll take you up on that..! :D

Nah... Sorry, that's not something i do... Even tough it's sometimes very tempting...

@Patrick, JimG: Well, everyone in the group had prior BC experience. 2 of them were just coming back from a 10 day trip in the Kootenay's... Everyone had the proper skills.

But hey, i was just "Keepin the stoke"!
