I'm sorry to say that this may be my last report of the year from Jay Peak. The fat lady is about to sing her last song.
I drove up thursday evening and got to the SNOWLINE about 9pm. I dropped my gear and headed over the notch to the Snowshoe for a couple libations. The place was hopping and they had an open mike night with a bunch of guys jamming. They sounded real good together. About 11:30 I decided to call it a night. As I was going back up rt 242 just below the Belfry I round a courner to find 8-10 fire and police vehicles extingushing a car fire that is freakin ROARING. The notch road is closed.
How am I going to get back to the Snowline? I head back to the Snowshoe and start enquireing how to get back over and I find out it will be a 40 mile detour!!!!!!!! Screw that! So I wait and try two more times to make it over the notch. Finally the third time I arrive just as the emergency vehicles are dispersing at 12:45. Yea!!!!!!!!!!! The car looked like a tin can as I drove by. Completely gutted. I sure hope nobody was in it.
Friday morning I met up with Rverc0il and Sledhaulingmedic on Stateside. Acouple real class acts and great skiers! I'm real glad we hooked up!
Conditions were very good. Like Riv said, it wasnt corn and it wasnt PP, it was good wetpack conditions without being mushy. The open trails were holding up well, I was actually kind of impressed. BUt the woods was where it's at. A few rocks and stumps here and there but they were easily avoided. UN has some AWSOME bumps right now. Nice ad soft.
We hit Buck Woods, Timbucktu, Kitz, Beaver Pond, Valhalla, North Glade and Stateside for Woods. Best IMO were Vallhalla, Timbucktu and Beaver Pond.
Get out there quick boys and girls. It's going fast. I heard rumors next weekend is going to be it for Jay Peak. They will have snow but I think they are going to lose alot of connectors this week and next.
Again, it was great to ski with Riv and Sled and I look forward to some BC with you guys!

Didn't realize that you and rivercoil were going to be at Jay yesterday...I was also there although a big part of my day was spent over at Big Jay. Lots of slush everywhere! I'll post my own report later tonight (with pictures, awf!).

jezz, you give a guy a good pic for an avatar and get crap for not posting pics every trip! sheezzz!!!

great skiing with ya NHPH!! maybe next time 20th, we opted for no bigjay but there was more than enough fun to be had at the main mountain. not like the powder hadn't consolidated already. btw, i am at MRG tomorrow. feel free to drop me a PM if you are interested in sharing some turns.

Heh. You put up such a high stanard though this early season(aka Cannon vids, and dec 10th jay pics) that these trips without pics just aren't doing justice. Your write ups still always rock though(thats why I didn't even try). I am expecting you to make up for these trips though with a few awsome tucks videos to end the season right. :)

i guess the standards are set high  problem is that it is much harder to take pics when you are skiing with other people. it slows the group down if everyone is always stopping to snap off a few shots. video is even worse because you need to setup the shot and ensure everyone is skiing a specific line to get the right angle, especially in the trees. sometimes, it is just too much of pain in the butt and sorry to be selfish, but i really don't think about the readers of FTO when deciding whether or not to shot ;) :D  tucks is a lot easier to get pics of because you are consistantly stopping to catch your breathe on the hike up, perfect time to whip out the camera. not sure if i want to do the video, depends how things go. my digi cam weighs almost nothing and is smaller than a pack of smokes. the video camera weighs considerably more and has the diameter of a softball. not stuff i can easier fit in my spring shell unlike my winter parka ;)

Speaking of tucks, the end of this week and the weekend look like it is going to be awsome weathers, about 50 degrees and sunny. If the weather holds up it looks like me and my dad may be going up friday. Are you headed up the end of the week or the weekend? If so we should meet up. How about you NHPH?

no plans yet.

Any plans yet? Looks like I'm going to Wildcat right now on friday because my dads lazyness won over again. Anyone going to be there?(I think I have $30 ticket if anyone needs it)

waiting to see how my elbow feels. pretty sore from last week. won't hike any gullies unless i can rely on it.

Oh that stinks. Atleast you could do something like GOS and just skin back and forth and get to the top. Probably be pretty scary doing jump turns on the steep stuff too.

Nevermind, my $30 ticket is now useless because the rest of the season is 2 for 1. :D You have no excuse now RiverC0il(besides your elbow...)
