WoW!

What an incredible week-end! Jay Peak reported 40in of snow in the past week and of course, i had to hide the bike and bring out the boards! With only a few trails officially open, the glades and woods of Jay seem 'o so tempting!

I met up with my neighbour early in the day... After only a few runs on the groomers, we headed out in Timbuktu while it was still fresh

After a couple of runs with them, i finally met up with Arthur and his friends. So didn't spend much time on the trails even tought the conditions were great, packed powder everywhere... and of course, some loose stuff!

...but we had to get inside the woods so that Arthur can try is new Burton Malolo

Julie had a bit of trouble getting around... maybe she should have taken out the Malolo also!

On Sunday, i decided to look around a bit more around the resort and found lots of virgin lines still... even tough we were late on sunday and all the powder pigs went trough everything!

Christian is sampling the stuff found on stateside... really deep stuff and still plenty of snow to kick around!

Here's a view at the new expension that should start happening next season... Dreaming of a day when Jay will get another hill to ride... 1600ft of vertical (similar to Jet area) and possibly 3 new lifts... And don't worry about the money because on saturday Jay Peak DOUBLED the number of tickets sold compare to the same weekend last year!

NOTE: Skiing and riding in the woods this time of year is really dangerous! With fallen trees and branches you could easily get stabbed! Rocks and stumps are all over the place and not to mention the "not frozen yet" creek! People have to realize that the trails that are closed and generally closed for a reason... Right now there is just not enough snow to handle all the traffic... but since you can see people riding on closed trails on Jay Peak's website, you don't mind posting pictures of yours!

Whoa...what great close up on the pics.

On the new expansion:

Sorry to disagree with you BigJay, I started this here before, I'm not favorable to the new expansion. If you look carefully at one of the propose plan, it has a lift connecting the new base area with the area above Everglades. A new lift there would destroy that whole area (Everglades and her neighbours). I'm an not even talking about the other negatives.

Nice pics!

It's crazy that I saw your groups on saturday morning. In fact, I've remark the girl with the green coat! =)

We were in the same line in the Flyer I think...

I don't know about that. The new expansion, at least the latest rumor's from Steve Wright at Jay, plans a more modest uphill capacity with a limited amount of cutting trails. The area will have more "natural trails" and less CanAm/Outer Limits "super trails". Also from the preliminary (old) plan, it doesn't look like everglade or staircase would be affected by the lift path. Even so, it couldn't be worse than what they did to those glades after installing the freezer chair, essentially cutting a flat trail straight across the top of everglade.

If you are concerned about crowds, I think the most affected glade would be bp and bbp. But the additional 250 acres would really spread things out.

The 250 acre number may be the acreage of open trails. The west bowl itself covers roughly 675 acres
And at Jay that is all fair game! 8)

As Jay stands currently, boundary to boundary, the resort covers roughly 882 acres. Of course not ALL of it is ridable the actual physical space trees take up is probably a sixth of the area.

The addition of the west bowl will bump the total acrage out to 1557

However, K-mart still comes in at 2214 boundary to boundary (always the Beast  )

The Big Jay bowl including the backside of Jay Peak and the dip is roughly 1174 acres.

1557 + 1174 = 2731 acres

I'm not even going to get into the area to the west of the peak (Black Falls Bowl), another 997 acres.

2731 + 997 = 3728 acres

Now that is spreading a crowd out!
