Jay Peak marketing excellence - example

Now, the regulars around here know that I'm not about giving away free advertising. However, I was struck by how good today's email ad from Jay Peak is:

Steve Wright and his department were just recognized by the NSAA for the effectiveness of their marketing. I actually bothered to send him a congratulatory email, and I sincerely meant it. Stuff like this is why.

I'm a huge Steve Wright fanboy. He was extremely good at Killington in spite of the ASC meltdown. Really bright. Great sense of humor. A complete straight-shooter. He obviously understands how to build a brand.

Haven't seen much of him around here this year after RivercOil left the building, but I praised his marketing steeze a bunch of times during previous seasons.

Great e-mail, though I would've trimmed the copy by 2/3. 8-[

Do I spot a bit of blood on the little girl's nose and her jacket? Talk about truth in advertising! That's what the marketing guy Jay sent me out with 3/18/03 looked like after taking a header on a Jet frozen granular groomer. Also what I looked like after my recent XC adventure on the Cascade River at Lutsen.

Note the bicycle helmet. Note the autumn color in the out-of-focus background foliage. That's not a ski picture.

Yeah, I just saw that in my e-mail. I was up there this afternoon checking it out. The only trails with snow on them are Jet and Haynes. Derricks is bare. Can-Am is toast. The woods are bare. Pretty much like the last day last year. My two boys and I are heading up tomorrow and probably Sunday too. I wasn't aware that under 17 was free until I saw the e-mail. Pay Saturday and Sunday is free. My oldest is on day 26 for the season.

Last day last year was way better than your description...only the weather was ... wet.

Without a car all weekend, however I got a PM from someone wondering about Tucks. With tomorrow's forecast, not sure what the Bowl will look like we've put an X on Mt Washington for tomorrow. Jay is a day drive option for him, so he's picking me up at 5am. We both have to be back in Ottawa late Saturday. I need to go to bed.

Before Tony asks, it's Morgane concert weekend...music tonight, stage rehearsal tomorrow and the concert on Sunday. After her concert, I'm seeing John Doe and The Sadies.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! I'm a huge John Doe (and X) fan. How much is a flight to Ottawa tomorrow?

I knew that.

Skiing Saturday and concert on Sunday.

I used to remember how to put up a youtube vid in here. This is for Admin...

John Doe and the Sadies - excellent CD.

Here is another excellent CD I was listening to while I was driving down to Sunday last Sunday.

I"m really hoping to have the same ski/concert combo when I head to Boston to see PJ Harvey and John Parrish on Saturday June 6th. [-o<

I better get to bed, my ride is showing up in less than 6 hours.

Geez, way better than discussing Pizza. :brick:

Hmmmm......Tuck's. My son and I went up Thursday on our way north and it was very, very good. Everybody had ear-to-ear perma-grins.Today could be iffy based on the weather forecast. Thursday evening the clouds rolled in and the weather was getting colder. They are supposed to get some snow up on the summit with rain down lower. The snowpack pretty much locked up since last weekend. Some sun and it should be great. Most of the new snow has melted off. I was up there last Sunday and we skied Hillman's due to moderate avy danger in the bowl and poor visibility. Hillman's was rated "low" and clear up to the fork. By the time we got to the top the sun started to break through. By the time we got to the bottom the clouds were breaking up nicely and the ski out was sunny. I would post up a few pics but I don't have my cable with me. I'll do it when I get home tomorrow night.

This is certainly one of the aspects that makes life more difficult for Patrick to score short notice skiing when the weather is cooperating.

My comments about Morgane's skiing do not relate to marginal days when only the hard-core are out there. You want to stoke someone's interest in skiing, take them when and and where they are most likely to be enthused and want to come back for more. For many of us with more casual skiing SO's that might mean nice weather, nice surfaces, good grooming, etc. For Morgane it probably means big mountains, challenging terrain. Where she hasn't spent much time yet given her age and ability.

Day 41, 5th day at Jay this season...considering that I only got out 1 day in December due to my injury isn't bad. I would say it's pretty damn good.

Yes, but the pain is sometimes dealing for family obligations. This is the big concert weekend (class-rehearsal-concert) and my daughter playing an instrument that needs a car. Don't worry about me when the weather is real good, I get out no matter way. Remember October 2005. Look it up.

:-({|= We were skiing with 3 kids, Lucky's kids (13 & 10) and Corbeau's 8 yo. Plus Vero, Lucky's daughter got to wear her first bra. :o :o :o (not sure when the film is going to be ready considering that I didn't finish the film and I believe I was the only to take a picture of Lucky's putting the bra on her).

The kids had great fun, snowball fight while skiing...jumps, bumps and skiing on a trail that had no snow (it wasn't our idea). The only thing is that they didn't join us for the best run of the day (as the last visit Jay). More later...

And as a regular lurker, Jay isn't on your top 5 preferred destination list. Good job for Jay.

My top 5 preferred destination list? Forgive me, but I don't get what you're saying.

Steve did a ncie Job at K and I have had a few pm's with since he moved North. I always enjoyed the attitude.

It's a shot of Steve Wright's youngest daughter. Not exactly a grand conspiracy.
