*Le Sigh*
every have one of those really bad reoccurring dreams that you just can't shake? it happens with a frequency of about once or twice per week? you go to sleep just hoping that the dream will be neutral, you don't even hope for good dreams any more, you just don't want any more bad one's. the bad dream of december 06 continues on and it seems to get worse every week.
granted jay peak now has a whopping 10 trails open serviced by 5 (!) lifts (two trails per lift average, wow!). but adding one or two trails per week (and minor trails at that) just isn't cutting it any more. i can only ski the jet so many times before i yawn myself to death and goat is one of my least favorite trails in the entire northeast. to make matters worse, there was no connection to get from the freezer to the jet (that was apparent at least, perhaps i missed something?).
i rolled out of bed around 9:30 a.m. spending the better part of the next hour deciding if it was worth it or not. i decided it beat spending an afternoon doing kukuro puzzles and went for it. i opted for the tram lot not knowing there was not connect to jet and thinking i would stay for the pass holder party. i couldn't believe the amount of non-new england plates i saw on cars. jay isn't worth driving up from boston right now, let alone new york or new jersey or virginia.
i took three or four runs off the freezer, they all blend together. goat was pretty blah. the top was frozen gran, the section under the quad was an absolute thin cover messy disaster area with rocks in the trail. things got better on lower river quai with okay soft moguls forming on skiers left as that was where the snow started to soften up. interstate felt like one with all the additional skiers funneling off the metro and race training set up on skier's left. i opened up the skis and let them run some nice big arcs on the soft snow with occasional thin spots.
things were a little bit more exciting over on the jet after a quick car shuttle to the secondary jet lot by the trailers. haynes sucked with race training on lower haynes skiers left. the jet was moderately okay with better snow conditions since the weeks past due to less traffic and warmer temps softening things up. occasional loose snow on the edges and frozen gran up top with things softening up to spring like conditions down low. moguls under the lift line were uninspiring.
not jay's fault obviously, they are blowing when they can which isn't very often. no need to warn people about not going into the woods any more... woods around the base area are pretty bare and you would have to be an idiot to be tempted into the woods at the top of the lifts given how nasty things look. even if jay blows when ever they can, the lower trails are barely scrapping by with melt and thinning out during the day when it is warmer. we could sure use a pattern change right about now! how cares about fresh snow, just need temps cold enough for 24 hour blowing and no loss of cover during the afternoon.
yup, another day in paradise.
