Jay Peak's last hurrah

From what I saw from the base of the Bonnie today, this weekends skiing will be limited to the Jet and Haynes. Looks like a bit of a choke near the bottom of Haynes. Pretty much everything else is cooked off. Big difference from Lucky's pictures from the 19th. I'm heading up Saturday and Sunday. If the conditions are any different than what I saw today, I'll update this report tomorrow. The temps weren't too warm and it was a little overcast so it didn't get too cooked today. If you see a guy in screaming yellow pants with a kid or two in tow, say "Hi". $39 for adults, juniors are free. Buy a ticket on Saturday and Sunday is free.

Post one anyway! I'd love to see pics, and I'm sure that others agree.

I didn't know that Skidog flew east for this one.

Or a guy with pink poles. Lucky was also thinking about heading down and that was before the kids ski-free. We didn't talk since I made the decision to head to Jay.

Well I saw pink poles in the rack today but didn't see anyone skiing with them. Conditions were quite good. Plenty of corn and soft bumps. Not too many people. I think they could make it another week if they wanted to. They really didn't lose much snow today and there is still a hard base under the corn. I would guess temps were in the 40-50 deg F range with clouds early. They broke up and the sun came out. Beautiful! My son and I were looking at Can-Am trying to figure out if would be worth the walk to ski it. The steep section at the top still had pretty good cover. Down lower it wasn't continuous and would require a bit of slogging. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I can't post the pictures I took because I forgot to bring the cable to download the camera.

Only downside today was that Jay doesn't have a license to sell beer at the triple. I don't know what's up with that. On a side note, the new hotel is going up pretty fast. I think the hockey rink is next. :-k

They sell beer in the Stateside Lodge during the regular season.... if you like 16oz cans of swill that is. C'mon man, its spring skiing in May. Go back to your car and crack open a cooler in the lot!

I went back to the car this morning to change my pants, gloves and get a windbreaker. Oh yeah, there was lunch/BBQ at the parking lot also. I saw not one, but two people with screaming yellow pants!!! Which one were you?

I seem to remember them selling beer at the triple before. The lady at the grill said they couldn't. :-k

I usually don't hammer the beer when I'm with the kids.....

Packing a cooler with one or two doesn't seem to make sense if you can buy one. Tomorrow I'll take a couple with me. Lesson learned. Al the bartender must be done for the year.

You goin tomorrow?

Holy crap, is he still around? He was there when I started working there in the late 80s.

Yep, stil there, still serving beers. Suzie has moved on but Al is still behind the bar. He's been there as long as I've been going there.

Here's a picture from the end of the last day at Jay. If you look very closely, the black specs on Can Am are Lucky and his kids....

Jay had all of 10 inches new snow after March 1 this year. So I'm amazed it stayed open this late.
I think, in the east, that the big difference on the amount of snow in spring is how much snow they made (artificial) at the begining of the season. My theory is when we have a weak begining of the season, we'll have a very good spring.
