wow, what a day. pardon any spelling mistakes, i am typing with one hand :o two-fer $45 w/coup 2day. freezer was pretty cold! 1 run from freezer, frozen gran and it sucked. ovwer on jet, the open runs were okay, lots o' chgewed up pow left over fromn the recent 6". glades were phenomenal though!!! wow! 1.5' of lighrt pow, plewnty of fresh lines! timbuck2 & kitz, wowowowow. pinch me. met up with phunked and NEK in timbuck, great meeting/sking with u guys!!!! NEK started wondering what BPG might be like, i say only 1 way 2 find out.

:P :D   :)

oh yea.

second run thru i kinda broke my arm though. that sucked  got myself to ski patrol who slung mne up. they'll be getting a few beers for their efforts for sure. right arm right at / below the elbow. pretty major break though, i am outta commission 4 a while. bad 1st season to be passholder!~!!

orto on monday to see if surgery is needed. not much pain (yet) thankfully. 1st break and 1st ski injury ever. given the phenom. early season, i picked a bad time  but i am still laughing and smiling, so all appears to be well.

Worst thing is it could have bben prevented. ski patrol took a look at my binding (since my getting persoal with a tree was caused by a release( and nitced one of my settings was a DIN 7 instead of 8.

live and learn.

That is unfortunate with the arm ,especially this early in the season. interesting comments from the ski patrol about the DIN setting . Had the same experience last year with a DIN 7 setting which is ok on groomers but once your into trees and ungroomed terrain and skiing aggresssively the pounding on the bindings causes a release tossing you airborne . Just missed a tree at MRG last year after releasing with a DIN 7 . Moved it up to 8 right after.

Oh Man.... :?

So sorry to heard, you were really on a streak. Many days out since October. The good thing is the season is still young, so take care of yourself and be ready for the playoffs.

All the best.

river... man thats to bad... pre-release damn... never did I think that would be the cause of sidelinging you. Tough luck man

Bummer Steve. That really bites.

Sounds like they got you good n drugged up. Enjoy it while it lasts  .

The good news is...you don't really need your arm to ski, right?

Heal up and you'll be skiing in a few weeks.

That sucks man... I crank my bindings up to hell because I figure, if I'm gonna bail and need a release, itll be one serious hell of a bail, enough to get em to release even though theyre cranked way above what theyre "supposed" to be... what they recommend for level III or level III+, whatever the hell lingo theyve come up with, just doesn't stand up to landing off a huge jump, or even sometimes there are situations you can recover from, but youve put too much pressure on the binding in some way or another and itll release. And especially in sloppy, wet eastern snow you might find in the trees... Let the obligatory safety lecture ensue, for anyone who feels the need to mend my flawed ways.... My bindings have thus far released whenever I really needed em to, and I've lost count of how many times that has been....

Riv, that sucks! I'm assuming forearm? Radius/Ulna? At least those heal realatively quick (assuming they don't all the hardware from "Bone Depot" to put it back together) 4-6 weeks.

Still, that's the pitts. :(

That's a drag, man.

I remember a few of my buds over the years skiing with an arm in a cast - lose the poles, free the soul!

Hope you have a speedy recovery

Yop!! It was really nice yesterday!!

me I got the control of the ski patrol at the exit of Urll's dream. That's sad because It was the niciest area. Anyway, this is what First tracking is all about! ;) The wood were full of deep powder. The real 40" was there and not on the icy Northway.

Beaver pond glade was the place to be!

here some pictures!

Sorry about the bad pun, but that's a tough break Steve. Much better than a knee or leg though, so count your blessings.

Even with a few pins if needed, you'll be back out there in 5 weeks or so. Here's to a speedy recovery!

Add my name to the list wishing you a speedy recovery. You'll have to go back next summer with a bow saw and settle the score. An eye for an eye, a limb for a limb, I say.

Ouch!

Sorry about your luck. That stinks!

If it's any encouragement, when I was teaching skiing, lots of people would show up with broken arms and do pretty well. So as long as you don't mind lift-served, you should be able to get back out there soon!

have a speedy recovery.

Well what can I say... It was a great day of skiing and riding at Jay on Saturday. Pfunkride and I got to the Tramside at 8:10. I was able to use my Burke pass to get a $30 weekend pass (definitely worth every penny in the end). I will miss the days of full access to Jay with the Burke pass.
Rode the flyer up and noticed the only thing open was Goat. Decided to head for Stateside. The Jet looked very good during ride up the triple. Decided to hit the bumps below the lift while they were still powder. This was a sweet run. Legs were already burning a bit as this was really my first lift served day.
Third run of the day was also the first rope duck of the day onto UN. Should have waited until the group behind us cleared out before ducking. Pfunk and I set up for a powder shot picture about 30 yards down the trail and here comes the group of four people skiing right through our line and stealing all of our pow  . I guess the old saying about no freinds on a powder day held up in this case.
Next run down we decided to hit the trees in between the Jet and UN. This was TOP to BOTTOM untouched powder. :D :D We figured that since this was such a visible area from the lift that everyone would jump in there. However, on the lift ride up no one had followed us. So we hit it again. It was just as good the second time. Since there are only about three lines through there we moved on over to check out Timbuktu. This had been skiied a lot more but the coverage was pretty decent. That is where we ran into Rivercoil. From there we hooked up and ducked the rope into Kitz Woods twice. :D This was gravy as well and hadn't been skiied very hard at all. Lots of fresh lines made for some good pictures.
From there we headed back to Tramside to grab lunch before the hords (at 10:15 the Jet liftline went from a 7 chair wait to the coral being nearly full). Enjoyed our snack and rest. We decided that Beaverpond was next on the list of places to poach. Getting off the Flyer there was a sign to the right saying "This area is SOOOO closed". With three ski patrollers hanging about we decided to hike toward the summit and circumnavigate to the goods. The trip down was great as there was lots of powder in the upper arm of Uller's and Poma line (chest deep drifting  ). Beaverpond/Beyand beaver pond was great! Not a whole lot of tracks and a whole lot of powder. We had to do it again. Unfortunately it was one to many times for Rivercoil as this was when he broke his arm. :(
Here's wishing him a speedy recovery. :D
By this time my quads had really started to cramp up. Pfunk and I took one more run. This involved going done goat which was now an icy death chute  as it was really the only open trail off of teh flyer. we ducked one more rope and had one last powder fix for the day. Went in to check on Rivercoil who was being taken to the hospital for examination. Poor guy. But he seemed pretty upbeat so that is good.

A quick note about hitting the Beaver Pond area when it was closed. I wouldn't have done this without having a group of three people. There were very few other skiers in area that could have been flagged down for help. Rivercoils injury could have been worse. Pfunk and I were out on the trail waiting for him. When he didn't come out after 5 minutes, I had taken my skis of and was about to hike back up to find his tracks. Pfunk was ready to go get help if needed. Luckily, Rivercoil popped out of the woods. In a situation like this having two other people in your group is very important.

on a less serious here are some pictures.
