WOWWWWWWWW
the photos are awesome and I just looked to the 124 of april 19, 2003

There is about the same number for the same dates in 2001 and 2002... hmm, another day, it's quite long to look them all, but damn there is some nice ones !!!!

Oh Boy!!! I start a new conservation, tested on few pics last night ... and now we are in full swing again.

Frank, I was suppose to try Mt.Washington this weekend, but the forecast didn't cooperate. Maybe the one after!!!??? I was planning the snowfield via the autoroad.

FINALLY - HERE ARE THE PICTURES FROM KILLINGTON MAY21-24 1984.

These pictures were from my first trip to Killington after the end of my term in CEGEP (between High School and University). Three of us stayed 4 days starting from Monday, Victoria Day.

#1: After leaving Montreal at 5am, we can finally see what we will be skiing on. This picture is from the Access Road (the road look quite different now).

#2: Picture from the Bottom of the Double. You can see a skier arriving at the end of the snow via LowerCascade. Besides the bottom, there was only one place where walking was required. This was May23 - top to bottom.

#3: My friend Martin and Gilles on Upper Cascade, Upper Downdraft (on the right) was also opened.

#4: The Mid-Station - notice the snow to reach the Base.

#5: On Top. Martin walking to the reach the snow.

#6: Once you reach the snow - a few more feet at it's the HEadwall on Upper Downdraft.

#7: Top of the Headwall.

#8: Me skiing in Jeans!!! on Upper Cascade (oh boy, me at 18). The headwall is right from the patch of snow hidden by the trees. That was the only way down, then you could choose between continuing on Upper Downdraft or heading to Cascade. On top is the old gondola terminal also seen on pic #5.

#9: Picture taken from the same spot as previous, but looking downhill. We can see the Mid.

#10: Mid-Station:

#11: Gilles begins skiing Lower Cascade.

#12: Me on Lower Cascade. We can see the Mid-station on the upper left.

#13: Walking required at the botton of Lower Cascade's pitch. After that, it's a long flat to the Base, hey it's beat walking OR a truck.

#14: Picture of Martin and me next to my mom's 76 Skylard and placed we stayed - with the construction and the peak behind us. (I am not sure if this pictures will be attached, it is just a bit more than 40k?)

*** NEXT YEAR AT KILLINGTON - MAY28-29, 1985 ***

Less pictures, less snow and less people. We saw maybe a total of 5 other skier in those two days. I believe the lift tickets were $6. The previous year K closed on June 21, this year (1985) they bearly made it to June3?

On May26, I had skiied Gray Rocks, so I was surprised when I saw the lack of snow left at K. We had to removed our skis 4-5 times to reach the Mid-station - plus walk the whole Headwall. Lower Cascade was closed, but we skied it anyway.

#1: Martin under the ropes on Lower Cascade in the fog with the Midstation behind.

#2: Much walking required to reach the Base on LwrCascade - skier were downloaded via the chair. What a difference a year makes.

That all folks!!! I will post some pics next year if you want.

I enjoy the 1984 pics, you can really get a sense of what Upper Cascade spring skiing was all about.

Thanx a lot for all the pics and story !!!!!!!! especially the nice ones of 1984. It looked to be still really interesting ! (and my database of old pics is really happy LOL)

Hey, like would said Bernard Derome : "Si la tendance se maintient, Radio Canada prévoit" some pics of skiing on may 30, 2003, at just 1500' of elevation.

(for the non Quebec people, it's one of the classic sentences in election evening)

For Wash next week, I don't know if it will still be worth to go there. We didn't get some reports of the place since 2 weeks and on the last reports, it didn't look so much snowy. Good chance !!

Yep, it's sure that the weekends were not really good, for meteo, but according to all the reports that were less and less good (+ the many ones on the Skivt list) 2 weeks ago, I'm not sure if it will still worth the trip, next week I hope it for you !

Yep Patrick, look at Tuck, today may 31.
It looks still possible T2B, but probably not next week...

Left Gully looks to still be enough great !

I went to try and ski Hillman's last Sunday. I started late, and got up to Hojo's late. I bring two packs with me, the big pack for the climb up to HoJo's, then I switch to a Camelback and attach my skis for climbing up in the ravine. It is much lighter for much easier climbing; however the skis keep hitting me in the back of the head. It does NOT hurt thanks to my helmet, but it is annoying. I changed the way I usually attach my skis to the Camelback and the skis kept spinning sideways. The skis were longer than the hiking trail to the ravine was wide which was a problem. I tried to change the way the skis were attached on the trail, but they kept spinning. I went back to HoJo's and decided to attach the skis the way I usually do. By then it as 4:30, and most of the people were already back from the ravine. The Ski Patroller from the ravine had come back, and since the ravine was in the fog, I decided it would NOT be a good time to head up the ravine. If I would have taken a bad fall to the bottom, nobody would know since the ravine was covered by fog; meaning nobody would be watching with binoculars from HoJo's.

This is what I have to report from my trip up to Tuck's last Sunday 05-25-03:

Upon arrival Rain slowed down to steady mist.
Climb up to HoJo's was in On and Off mist.
Temperature was constantly around 50 degrees.
Crowd was minimal.

From HoJo's Hillmans was visible through the clouds, the Bowl was hidden behind Heavy Fog.
The Ski Patrol at HoJo's did NOT want anyone going up to Hillman's. The lower 1/3 was thin and supposedly unskiable. The middle 1/3 was supposedly good to ski. The Top 1/3 supposedly also was NOT skiable.
Steady rain at Hojo's from Light Drizzle to Heavy rain.
The Ski Patrol wanted everyone to ski the Left Side of the bowl only, and have everyone stay away from the riht side and middle of the bowl due to ice that was coming down that afternoon.
Even though I did NOT go up to the bowl, everyone said with a smile that the conditions were really nice, and a little foggy.
The Ski Patrollers were talking at HoJo's saying that skiing would be OK for one more weekend (Today and Tomorrow), and possibly next weekend, but probably not.

www.TimeForTuckerman.com is the best place to get the latest reports on conditions at Tuckerman's.

Thanks a lot for this report, even though it's sad you missed that. Sad too that Hillmans looks to be ± unskiable now. I didn't know there was a ski patrol on Mt Wash... surely a good thing as there is so much people during spring...

I hope you'll be able to get back there for a last time sunday or next weekend
