Killington opens tomorrow

so i have a question for anyone that may want to chime in.

now that killington is opening for daily operations tomorrow and the riv is closed till this coming weekend, should the riv still get 1st to open bragging rights even tho they had to close, not only for business reasons, but cuz they lost all of the snow they had?

i hiked around mt washington, gulf of slides, tux etc yesterday and it was a winter wonderland, but not quite ready for turns yet. lapped sunday river for 6 laps today and must say that they have plenty to open the top again and got pretty far down the hill too. 4 open trails at killington is intriguing tho. good effort to them!

They both get some bragging rights. I am pretty sure it was real being out the 23rd and 24th. There is something to be said for 7 day a week operation too.
I don't think the River has enough business to be open mid week yet, but i would like to see Friday added on.

Good for K and get out.

And I'm finaly starting my season there..1 day bus trip..brutal!!! but snowmaking has cranked up and they will be expanding. Hunter...is trying.

I .....did it...but what it means for me is that by the time I get to you...you'll have a LOT more to slide around on....and later in the season..you'll have a LOT more to slide around on....

OK , I looked couldn't resist , then I looked outside at the Quebec Landscape( which could be anywhere in the east ) with a few inches of snow deciding if it was worth buying lift tickets for one or 2 runs on a few hundred feet of vertical or how about sneaking on  nah not a good role model . My son said what about the November record for starting skiing , I said how about quality over quantity for a new record. went for hike instead. Looks great out west , our time in the east will come , I hope. :-)

Very true. Remember the November vs. April comments in the other thread. You're seeing these  worthy pics from the Sierra and Colorado several weeks earlier than usual. Maybe a couple of weeks early for LCC.

As always, but as we get older, the skiing in November in Quebec used to be much better (see November discussion I started last year). Tremblant open as scheduled (and never really open earlier), MSA was opening this weekend after pushing their opening day twice, MSS open one trail last week. The fact that we got a good blanket of snow has probably got a lot of the urbanites to the hill. As for myself, taking care of the house this weekend as I'm playing Mr. Mom...but don't worry, I got my turns last Sunday, I did a detour to MSS while I was coming back to Ottawa from Montreal. Lucky I didn't pay (free with my Edelweiss pass), because $40+ was a steep price to pay. I've seen pics from today at MSS, it looked much better, but still crowded.

Yup, but it doesn't matter to me as I won't get back to K for a little while..what I will be hitting is Hunter..they are waiting until after the rain to start blowing..and they can open half the place in a few days..so I'll be at Hunter Dec 6. Killington was ok for my first day out...I stayed with the bump runs which where starting to wear through to the ice but thats the usual round these parts..lower east fall had the guns going but it was..a bit of a shit show with everyone throwing themselves down its huge and irregular monster moguls...the snow was a little too wet near the guns which made it a little difficult to transition from icy to sticky..again..the usual. I was really testing out my new insoles...nice! and my new skis, Dynastar Sultan 85's..really nice on the slippery stuff and pretty good all around, heavy though. So for $100.00 total for the day and I didn't have to drive..it was a pretty good day...for round these parts.

Me hears it be snowing hard at Killington now........ =D>
And you're aware of the 2+ inches of rain predicted for Tuesday-Thursday?

Flood watches have already been posted for almost all of New England. Fairly warm but VERY wet storm coming through. Much of the manmade snow on the ground at ski areas will be gone by Thursday, but longer ranger forecast is for colder weather to return. ALWAYS risky for any ski area in the Northeast to make much snow in November. Weather in December can always be variable (and, lately, for the rest of the ski season).
