Wed: a hazy cloud cover kept the sun effects down...temps hit about 65 by 1pm... A very very good day for sure...it was essentially 2 trails, rime and reason, with the long great eastern/lower bunny run out back to the K1... but skiing was off the NR triple.... the cover on rime was very good considering and reason was more than adequate even though some spots showed up...the little jib park on the top of reason had 4 little jumps / hits...upper rime , by 1pm , had a good 40 turn , 1 lane , zipper line going, thanks to us and the K mogul team that showed up ....

Thurs: we showed up to a socked in mountain... it had rained overnight and more importantly, appeared to freeze up ... normally not a big deal , but with no sun in sight to allow it to mush up, we stood there for a good 40 minutes trying to figure out what to do...talked to a few and determined that it was not going to be worth it...bailed out and by 11am driving through woodstock , it was pouring rain...

My guess it they got croaked over night , barely made it through today, and the closing is 100% legit...rime probably would be fine , but the outrun to the K1, I would imagine, probably would be really sketch without any more snowmaking... i give them a lot of credit for getting open what they got open and how good it was ...
too be honest , i just dont see how sunday river is going to open , but i guess you never know until you go..

on a slightly different topic this post from GEOFF on Kzone pretty much tells me all i need to know about any future lectures from geoff on mogul management :roll:

yeah, soft bumps all over really would be an awful thing, huh Geoff =;
 
I doubt that was Geoff's point. With current and predicted weather there is not going to be a "soft bumps all over" phase before the next round of cold weather/snowmaking because there can't be enough base left.
 
low of 47 tonight into saturday and low of 48 saturday into sunday...freezing bumps would not have been an issue at all on saturday

But dirt bumps perhaps. There was a short window of soft bumps available on this weather cycle, and joegm got it Wednesday. In the East, you snooze you lose.

Of course not. My point was that it was mush over minimal base by Thursday. They can't just put down a few inches of manmade over refrozen sludge or the surface will quickly turn into slide & bash bumps. They need to put down a couple of feet of new snow pack so you don't quickly wear down to the impervious base underneath.

Of course, he's more interested in flaming me than getting facts or the story right. I think it's poor etiquette to cross post something and then flame it. It speaks to the quality of the poster.
