wed: bad... it was cold as hell the night before and it all froze up... they did what they could on bittersweet/skylark as far as grooming it out.. it was like skiing on rock salt with large cookies thrown on top... supa was pretty much unskiable...previous reports were accurate that they had in fact groomed out the supa in the middle... they left the zipper lines on skiers left, but it didn't matter cause none of it was skiable...it never got out of the mid 30's... we bailed at noon after some treacherous turns and drove back to lincoln
thurs: glorious- sun was out and it got up to about 60.. it was very windy so it made it feel like 50 and dept us cool... the zipper lines on left side were challenging to all but the most legit... the groomed middle of the run began to form bumps about 12 but really not lines...skylark bumps were nice , but short, adn a walking patch was starting to open up by end of day
friday: epic- sunny again but with with occasional clouds blocking it , which made it nice... about 55f with less wind... a full on bump run had sprung in 24 hrs on supa... lines were not really consistent, but soft snow had no complaints...
status report: divide the upper headwall into 4 quadrants.... standing at the bottom , looking up, the uppper left quadrant is gone and by the end of the day on fri, the upper right quad was down to about 15 feet wide at the very top... just after headwall, moving down ,large sections of skiers left zipper line are gone and major bomb holes opening up the further down you go... the middle of the trail still has about 4 to 6 feet on snow on it , but it's overall width is shrinking fast... still 2 rails set up on skiers right just after headwall...... bottom headwall is also losing width fast with a couple of spots opening up just above bottom headwall pitch...they moved around a lot of the big pile at the bottom of supa to make a decent inrun to the lift of about a foot or so... 10 foot walk on skylark as of fri morning...i'd guess 4 or five more days for bittersweet/skylark , maybe....the rate of loss on the headwall in 72 hours was upsetting and based on it, there may be walking involved in less than 5 days...we have determined for us that hiking down more than half the headwall makes it not worth it so we are figuring this week coming up and 50/50 for the following week might wrap it up, as sad as that is....interesting notes... all 3 days had some substantial downtime for the lift with friday being the most of about 30 minutes when they had to replace a part....also, talking to an employee who claimed to be middle management , he opined that 1) only k , out of all the asc resorts, including west, makes money and 2) he claimed it cost $100 per hour for electricity to spin supastar lift.. back on wed thurs and fri next week
