ALL 3 DAYS JUST ABOUT IDENTICAL....TO MAKE IT SIMPLE, THE BEST 3 DAYS OF THE SPRING SINCE OUR LAST DAY AT LOON... EACH DAY HAD THE TEMPS DROP DOWN TO THE LOW 30'S AT NIGHT... EACH DAY FEATURED SIGNIFICANT CLOUD COVER THROUGHOUT THE DAY WHICH SERVED TO PRESERVE THE SNOW SURFACE. BY 10AM A TRUE CORN FORMED AND NEVER REALLY BECAME TOO WET BECASUE OF THE CLOUDS... EVERY NOW AND THEN THE SUN WOULD COME OUT AND BLUE WOULD SHOW UP , BUT CLOUDS USUALLY COVERED IT AFTER ABOUT 1/2 HOURS OR SO... MONDAY IT SPRINKLED AT THE BASE ABOUT 1 FOR ABOUT 1/2 HOUR AND WAS A MAJOR SQUALL AT THE SUMMIT. TUES AND WED SAW VERY SIMILIAR PATTERNS FOR THE SAME LENGTH OF TIME BUT AT ABOUT 2:30 TILL THREE. WE WERE SCHEDULED JUST FOR MON AND TUES BUT THE SICK LINE WAS UTILIZED BY ME AND MY MAN G, BEING HIS OWN BOSS, JUST DECIDED NOT TO LEAVE THE NEAR EPIC SPRING CONDITIONS.
LINES: IT APPEARS THE RIDICULOUS WHOLESALE GROOMING CEASED ON SUNDAY AFTER THE SL FUN RACE... ALL THREE DAYS HAD THEM GROOMING ( SOMEHOW THEY CAME UP WITH THE MONEY TO FILL THE GAS TANK OF THE GROOMER  ) UPPER BITTER AND UPPPER SKYLARK RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRAIL CREATING A ABOUT A 2 CAT WIDE LANE/STRIP WHICH WAS GOOD TO WARM UP ON AS THE COLD DURING THE NIGHT WOULD FIRM IT UP NICE FOR ABOUT 60 MINTUES. BY ABOUT 10 OR SO, IT WOULD FALL APART THOUGH TO THE OATMEAL JUNK ( THAT LOAFER189 SEEMS TO LOVE BOMBING DOWN IT SO MUCH :? ) AND IT WAS TIME TO SIDE SLIP THE BUMPS FOR A RUN OR 2. MONDAY HAD SKIER'S RIGHT OF UPPER H WALL GROOMED WITH THE USUSAL GARBAGE BUMPS ON SKIERS LEFT. FLAT MIDDLE SECTION HAD SKIERS LEFT BUMPED UP ABOUT 35% OF THE WAY ACROSS THE HILL WITH GROOM ON THE REST ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE LOWER HEADWALL. . FAR SKIERS LEFT OF L HEADWALL STILL HAD THE GARBAGE CROOKED SLANTED MONSTER BUMPS WITH ABOUT 20- % OF THE MORE BALANCED PART BUMPING UP MOVING FROM SKIERS LEFT TO RIGHT. BY WED THE LOWER HAD ABOUT 50% BUMP COVERAGE MOVING SKIER L TO R. BY WED THE MIDLE HAD ABOUT THE SAME RATE MOVING ACROSS... BY WED THE HEADWALL WAS STARTING TO TAKE A MAJOR HIT ON IT'S TOP 25% IN TERMS OF COVERAGE.. THEY HAVE A SMALL SNOW PILE UP TOP BUT NOT AS MUCH AS ONE WOULD THINK . NOT SURE IF THEY PLAN TO PUSH IT DOWN OR NOT TO COVER THE HEADWALL , WHICH I WOULD GUESS, WOULD BE REALLY ROUGH BY THIS SUNDAY. M, T AND W ALL HAD THE SS, BITTER AND SKY LARK OPEN WITH TOTAL COVERAGE ( NO SPOTS ASIDE FROM H WALL UPPPER ) ON THE SS, TOTAL COVERAGE ON BITTER AND JUST ABOUT TOTAL COVERAGE ON SKY LARK... SKY LARK HAD GREAT BUMPS WHICH BEGAN AFTER THE SS SKIERS RIGHT CROSS CUT. AFTER THE FIRST SECTION OF BUMPS, A SPOT OF ABOUT 15 FEET IS OPENING EDGE TO EDGE AND WILL PROBABLY BE GRASS AND DIRT BY SAT IF NOT SOONER. REGARLESS , THAT WAS PART OF THE LINE OF THE DAY(S). WE LITERALLY DID NOT SKI THE BOTTOM PART OF THE SS ALL THREE DAYS AS THE BUMPS ON THE SKY LARK WERE SO NICE AND REASONABLE AND THE ONES ON LOWER SS ARE THIER USUAL JUNK.
( AS IN PITCH AND TIGHT SPACING ) SO THE LINE OF THE DAY (AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OUT OF THE GATE BURNING TURNS ON BITTER/ S LARK FLAT LANES WHILE THEY WERE STILL NOT OATMEAL ) WAS THE SS HEADWALL, TO ABOUT 70% OF THE FLAT MIDDLE SECTION OF SS TO THE SKIERS RIGHT CROSS OVER TO SKY LARK BUMPS ) THE FLAT MIDDLE BUMPS WOULD CHANGE EVERY HOUR FROM REALLY STRAIGHT ON ZIPPERS- ALMOST A STRAIGHT ABSORPTION TANK - TO SOME DECENT ROUNDED OFF BUMPS THAT COULD BE SKIED PRETTY WELL WITH REAL ANGULATED MOGUL TURNS. WE MANAGED TO GET 2 DISTINCT LINES GOING ON THE SKY LARK THAT LASTED ALL THREE DAYS :P .... TEMPS WERE AS HIGH AS 45 DOWN TO THE LOW THIRTIES AS THE FRESH SNOW DEMANDED.
OVERNIGHT ALL 3 DAYS SAW ABOUT 1 TO 2 INCHES OF ADDITIONAL ACCUM. IT PROVIDED A NICE REFRESHER. THE VERY MILD TEMPS REALLY MADE IT AWESOME. 3 OF THE BEST CONSECUTIVE SKI DAYS ALL YEAR REALLY. AFTER 3 REALLY CRAPPY WEEKS ( TOPPED OF THE BY SUGARLOAF DISGRACE ) IT WAS A LOT OF FUN FOR SURE. SADLY, SCHEDULE PROBLEMS MIGHT FORCE A NO GO NEXT WEEK. SO WITH THAT IN MIND, WED WAS APPROACHED AS THE WRAP FOR THE YEAR. WE WENT OUT WITH A GOODIE. SKIED THE BEST OUT OF ALL 3 DAYS IN TERMS OF TECHNICAL. OFTEN TIMES , I WOULD COME OUT OF K REALLY FRUSTRATED BECASUE OF THE LACK OF CONSISTENT LINES AND THE ZIPPER LINES MADE BY THOSE WHO INSIST ON SKIING BY NOT MAKING TURNS IN THE BUMPS AND JUST BACKSEAT BOB BOUNCING OFF THE TOPS CREATING RUTTED OUT JUNK. IT CAN GET FRUSTRATING FOR THOSE OF US NOT NAMED J BLOOM ( OR LOAFER189 I GUESS ) TRYING TO MAKE PROPER TURNS IN THOSE LINES... ALL THREE DAYS , THINGS WERE CLICKING FOR G AND ME. :P GOOD WAY TO END IT UP AND GO INTO BLACKCOMB FOR SURE. THE LEGEND OF K OLD TIMER ANTHONY L ( ABOUT 80 YRS YOUNG), WAS THERE FOR ALL THREE DAYS , KICKING THE CRAP OUT JUST ABOUT EVERYONE ON THE HILL AND CATCHING THE 3:55 LIFT. THE PLACE WAS DEAD . NOT SURE IF THE PROJECTED WEATHER KEPT THEM AWAY, BUT LIKE I NOTED A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE PLACE JUST HAS A DIFFERENT VIBE ABOUT IT. OUR FRIEND BO ( B M M CHALLENGE WINNER FOR FEMALES ) WAS THERE ON MONDAY, PUTTING EVERYONE TO SHAME AS USUAL...
WE HAD OUR ANNUAL WRAP UP SESSION ON THE LAST RUN ON WED AT THE TOP OF SKY LARK BUMPS, REPLAYED THE SEASON, SHED A TEAR , THANKED THE MAN UPSTAIRS FOR AN INJURY FREE SEASON AND SAID OUR GOODBYES WITH A HEAVY HEART INDEED. KIND OF SPOOKY- WITH ALL THE SNOW STILL THERE AND ALL
THERES A CHANCE WE MIGHT PULL IT OFF FOR ONE DAY NEXT FRIDAY, BUT IT LOOKS DOUBTFUL. THEY WILL HAVE PLENTY OF COVERAGE ON THE SS ( CEPT THE HEADWALL MIGHT GO ) AND THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN BITTER TILL THE END. SKY LARK WILL HAVE TROUBLE ONCE THAT SPOT BEGINS TO OPEN BUT I WOULD THINK IT OK THROUGH THIS SUNDAY.
HAVE A GOOD SUMMER ALL- 62 DAYS TILL BLACKCOMB :P
PS: LOAFER189 DID NOT SHOW FOR THE LESSONS FOR US INEXPERIENCED SPRING SKIERS  TOO BAD- WE WERE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT

NOT SURE IF I WROTE THIS EARLIER BUT THE FAMOUS SIGNAGE AT THE TOP OF SS BOASTING THE BASE DEPTHS AND " SOMETIMES TILL JUNE " MUST BE KINDLING FOR SOMEONE'S FIREPLACE... IT IS GONE ....AND SO , APPARENTLY, ARE THE GLORY DAYS OF YESTERYEAR AT K

Another long winded non-sensical post by Joegm, fueling the fire that he has mediocre skills as apparently he can't ski anything other than 'perfect' moguls.

I think we need to start a poll, which are more pathetic...Joegm's english language skills or skiing skills, I say they are both pretty bad.

Apparently he is not only to busy to use any form of punctuation or paragraphs, but also too busy to turn off caps lock.

enough already! i can't stand the caps either but the bashing of forum members by others isn't appropriate on this excellent community! especially from someone with only two total posts.

Anyone want to speculate what a groomed bump is ?? :?

It's crystal-clear to me that skier's right was groomed and skier's left was ungroomed with bumps. I suspect that it was crystal-clear to you, too.

And as long as we're at it, the concept of bumps seeded with a groomer has been discussed to death around here already. Search the archives.

I'm rapidly losing my patience with the attitude exhibited by a few newcomers around here.

Glad to hear that! Thanks, joegm, for another really informative report.

Looking to the pics above, I begin to more seriously believe the rumours saying that Killington would open on weekends, after may 15 !

I will believe it only when I see the lift turning on the 21!!! It's going to be hot here this week (27C tomorrow) + what's K commitment into re-opening an extra weekend :?:

we'll see. this has been a season where they've sort of thunk outside the box a bit so maybe opening on weekends 'til the snow runs out is a possibility. i'll be up this weekend for the 'close' and again memorial, so if it lasts until then and they decide to run the lift that'll be great, if not we'll earn some turns. not holding my breath though. a lot can happen in 3 weeks.

i just got done pm'ing jimg... i didn't put it in the report but the rumor mill was turning all three days we were there.. it was coming from skiers, no doubt.. everyone had a source that said it was being considered spinning past 15th... the one actual employee we talked to ( low level manager ) was not encouraging at all and actually articulated at one point that he didn't know where they would get the workers as they all had been told that they were done on the 15th.. but ont he other hand, he did not dismiss it out of hand ...my buddy gil is going up there as i write and will be there on tues and wed... i'm done becasue of work schedule this week (and by me wasting a vacation day at a certain place in far northern maine about 3 weeks ago that was advertising total malarchy... yes jimmy , could have used that day for this thurs  :x . i'll talk to gil tomorrow night and put up the 411 asap.....if by some miracle they spin past sun( as frank's photot's show they easily could and still offer a quality product ) into next week, the dead will rise for sure :P .. turn em good al and jimmy
