K on thurs and friday was blue sky with surprisingly cold temps ( lots of wind...) they continue to foolishly groom out superstar and leave only the last 20% of the far skiers left bottom of SS for crooked ass bumps  ....
the snow was super heavy , almost frozen gran like that turns to piles of mush ( not moguls) by about 1 pm... the better route(s) was the skyhawk/lark/bittersweet lines down on skiers right....
by friday afternoon there were still good sections with some decent turns on those routes but many points of entry were down to a few feet wide....
SS still has enough snow for continuous no break skiing top to bottom... it is very thin though and i would say the average base depth is no more than 18 to 25 ... with some sections as low as 6 inches or less..
overall it was pretty good but not epic by anymeans.
half our crew had to split and half headed over to the cat for today and tomorrow since the cat did the right thing and opened back up...jsul called me at noon today and said it was 100% better than K....the snow quality he thought, was superior and more close3r to true corn than the frozen gran type of snow we had at K...only 3 real lines down with lower and middle catapult having the best turns and lines/consistent left rights
sul says they will spin ( the east's fastest quad for sure ) for sure on sunday, so he'll be there
anyone thinking about it , cat is probably the better bet based on sul's live report, but either way, if u are thinking about going, do the right thing and support the lift serviced....tuckerman's can wait another week

joegm,
Saturday morning was my first  visit to the Cat... Loved it, particularly the temps, ...along with my new boots' day #1 runs...of which I only took three then had to split. Fun three runs!...but looking at Tuckerman over my shoulder while riding up the Quad was torture....it looked soooo NICE! ...But I had, and still have, some more work on outfitting the OC-1 to do....that stream's gravel bottom out in back, next to the deck is very pretty! Little streams like that give die-hard paddlers fits when doing something else.... The Cat's vertical is much like Sugarloaf's!!!...but that frontface run right down the fall-line is something else.. 8)

Natural from the Nor'easter at Wildcat/Sugarloaf vs. more manmade at K?

u may be onto something TC...j sul who was there on sat and sun ( in addition to being at K with me and the crew on thurs and fri) is convinced of that exact thing...
i'm not 100% convinced but i will not dispute it as i have no rational explaination for the apparent big difference is snow quality... sul said cat kicked ass on sun as well and that it would be possible to spin on monday with no walking at all... forecast for tues and wed calling for 70's though so they probably figure it's just not worth it... sul said the lot was about 20% filled on sunday

bspence, u are right about that line... u should have seen it 2 weeks ago when we hit it for 5 straight days...
the thing about that line is you can ( if u are a somewhat upper level skier ) charge it hard when it has the snow and not feel like you are going to kill yourself... it's a high consequence line for sure for 50% of the way down if you fall, but it's just the right steepness for regular schmuck upper level skiers who know what they are doing with their sticks and are not named scot schmidt, and it just seems to set up well with many tight left right turns in it's double fall line.
cat's problem is that it generally blows in dec jan and feb unless you get to the fresh snow within 48 hours....it's a march and april and ( to some consternation of others ) may hill
