Las Lenas Backcountry

After another storm cycle Marte is running today.

Season-to-date snowfall update through August 15:
Portillo 287 inches
Valle Nevado 248 inches
Las Lenas 181 inches (obviously understated)

Upper mountain base depths are over 300 cm.

The ~100cm. bases at the South Island New Zealand areas are puny by comparison, but subjective reports of ski conditions are very positive. So I'm looking forward to having much better skiing next week than in 1982 or 1997.

just got back from portillo.. I'll post pictures later.

Just as a reference, we were skiing chutes in the beginning of the week, that had mandatory 15-20 foot airs, and by the end of the week they were nearly gone. The ski area reported around 3 feet in the week that we were there, but upper mountain areas, and wind prone areas certainly picked up far more than that...

Season-to-date snowfall update through Sept. 6:
Portillo 303 inches
Valle Nevado 254 inches

Las Lenas has not updated its total from the 181 first reported over a month ago.

Season-to-date snowfall update through Oct. 2:
Portillo 319 inches
Valle Nevado 265 inches

I think these are fairly average numbers for South America. But it was an above average ski year because much of the snow came early and skiing was good from at least early July onwards.

I think I posted a report on here not sure, but I ended up getting 4.5 days on Marte. Those were the best ski days of my life...
