By U.S. standards, it's at least middle class but as I recall, yes, a large percentage of the economy is at least tourism-adjacent. Daniel Gauthier -- who made his fortune with Cirque du Soleil and purchased the struggling ski area 20+ years ago
Didn't the Quebec government create Le Massif? Or finally install lifts after years of bus-served skiing? (That's a story - no snowcat, no heli, no cog railways, just a bus!

)
Le Massif is a great, unique ski area with outstanding views!
Perhaps my best East Coast ski weekend was meeting friends for the Quebec City Winter Carnival! Skied Stoneham, Mont Ste. Anne and Le Massif.
At night, we still wore our ski clothing because it was freezing (0F?) and there were lots of slides - some on a sled, some on your butt. Cold, but amazing - ice castles, food, spirit, but even Vin Chaud could not keep warm for long!
There was a rumor that Quebec City could host the Winter Olympics. That would be a great idea to spotlight the ski resorts and the region, and to ensure proper management of Mont Ste. Anne. Le Massif can host Downhills! Split them with Montreal if you need some stadiums.
Cortina is NOT near Milan - 5 hours. Quebec City and ski areas are only 3-4 hrs respectively from Montreal.
