Lift derails at the Loaf

A poignant reminder for anyone that whines and complains about windholds. There is a reason for them. Thankfully the resort got 51 to 56 cms of snow the day before, and there was no grooming under the lift so there was a relatively soft landing area. The outcome could have been much, much worse.

From what I have read, this was a bad judgement call by a lift mechanic. He was on the tower fooling with adjustments trying to get the haul rope back on the sheeves. The prudent thing would have been to evacuate the lift first. They're really lucky nobody got killed.

I bet they're still sued over this... something along the lines of: "I'm traumatized and afraid to go back on a lift."

I actually think that is legitimate.

The 11 pm news tonight said that they were trying to shut it down after winds lifted a line off its tracks. Thank goodness for the snow fall.
