in the top 3 days of the year... not a trace of clouds...stayed cool... topped out at about 48 with a nice breeze... kept the corn firm all day...loon is pretty much 100% open, if not officiallly, for all intensive purposes...the line under the gondy was still very skiable, although not sanctioned ( like that matters at all at this point  ) we skied that a few times playin cat and mouse with the patrol....otherwise it was the mogul course on flume all day... course is in fine shape and holding up well.. off the course , some super fast chargin groomers could be had ... lots of fun chargin like that in the soft snow with the wind in you face... once again, empty .. they will close this sunday at least 90% open, which is just pathetic

I skied there Sunday afternnon with my oldest son. Snowed part of the afternoon. Conditions were less than ideal with quite a bit of ice on the slopes worth skiing. Some good corn spread around here and there. Official trail count sucked. I don't know how they claim to have so much terrain open. I have no idea why some of the trails were closed....a creek hole here...a bare spot there. It was no big deal and those trails should have been open. Most of the hazards were already marked. It was my first time and my son's first time ever to Loon. He had free pass so we went just to check the place out. I'm glad you had a good day there. We still had fun as we were skiing instead of cleaning up the yard. Plenty of snow left up there....they just need to let you ski it. If I was by myself I would've ducked some ropes just to see what the place is about. I didn't really have that option as I was with my 11 year old. We were able to "detour" around one on the last run under the Kanc quad. Best conditions of the day.

That's the right spring recipe. The breeze results in more sublimation/less melting and sticky snow.

sklbumm100- i think you were the victim of timing.. timing is everything...based on what my buddy's skied yesterday and one of them who was also there friday, you just got unlucky.. it poured rain there friday at 5pm.. then it got cold... i know sat and sun must have been disasters, but that;s what happens with moisture and cold temps at night... yesterday the boys tell me the bumps and anything not groomed was awful as the hard freeze over the weekend did not drain out enough and the wind kept it firm....too firm... unlike today where it kept it good cause it had some time to get warm yesterday enough to drain it out a little....i think sat and sun were awful everywhere as was monday... loon, in our opinion, was one of the best places to be today because of what often hurts loon in the winter,,, the lower elevation...i think loon got warm enough today to soften it up just enough... i would be a weeks salary that jay peak or stowe were not that good today because they are 1000ft higher....normally a good thing, but not necessarily so in the spring on any given day....
you are right about the ropes... the loon ski patrol , in general, sucks... i don't say that lightly... i know they deal have to deal with some real pieces of work and clowns over the course of the season and i know they are underpaid and often underappreciated for many things but it's an opinion that has been formed after many years of watching how they operate...they are not professional in too many areas and are very arrogant, in my opinion and make too many unreasonable decisions about terrain closures....

The clear weather/low humidity needed for optimal corn snow cannot be taken for granted in the East. So a similar close watch on weather forecasts and flexible schedule are called for, as in trying to hit powder days. As icelantic is doing for Sugarloaf. Isn't the Loon pass good there as both are now Boyne resorts?

The threedom and the Sunday River/ Loaf passes(Maine Pass) can be used at all 3 places for the rest of the year.

You have to go to the ticket window with you pass to get a ticket a Loon if you have the loaf/ sunday River pass(Maine Pass). Same thing you have to take you threedom pass to the ticket window to get a ticet for the Loaf or the river. Anyone who bought next years pass already can ski all three for the rest of year as well.

Already have two vacation days planned to ski the laof after the river closes. I was at the Loaf for Reggae weekend. Plenty of snow. back side fields were even open and fun.

Wow, I don't recall ever seeing a positive review of conditions from joegm, at least not this season.

What's next, a détente with Killington?

now that's just silly... i think the first report of the year i put up back in december said something like mad river glen was epic that day...
the title of this section is and always has been no bull....do i inject a little slant if the moguls on any given day are not where it think they should be ... sure i do...it's why i ski... but i always give an honest depiction of what the non bump terrain is also....to be honest with you, i think there have been too many bull reports recently from some people...i've read some reports from days i have been skiing and as i am reading them i am saying to myself, what the hell are they talking about....

maybe jerry seinfeld's line to george costanza " the truth as you see it "
is true for more than we want to admit.... :P
