HEY !! Loveland just started their snowguns for real in their beginner trail. Now, it's serious, the 2003-04 season in North America is really about to begin ! Less than 10 days remaining before the opening day !

Woohoo !!!

I wonder if a ski area will compete with Loveland, but it won't be Timberline for sure, as there is no snow in the snowfield actually and they don't have snowmaking.

Oops I forgot the link to see 6-8 other pics of today and the snowmaking update :

http://www.skiloveland.com/snowmaking/snowmaking_pictures.htm

A-basin is ready too
they will start the snowguns as soon as the weather is enough cold !

Yep, you're right ! thanks !
I really wonder who is going to open first and what will be the first trail to open, at A-basin. I guess High Noon, Sundance or trails in that area ??

Yeah... that's sad...
Actually, they're making snow, but looking the forecast, it will come back over the freezing point soon and for most of the coming week

Timberline got a lot of snow in the last 3-4 days, but as the glacier has completely melted out in the last months, they need a lot of snow before to reopen.

Who is gonna be the first ?????

Wahooooooooooo !!!!!!
Can't believe they won't open this weekend !!!

Sh** ..... they even removed totally the "planned day for opening"

It's really warm in Colorado actually... and it looks like no ski area will open in north america in october

From the A-basin website:

:: Opening Day - Sometime in October 2003 ::
Yep, the warm weather has thrown us for a loop, so we won't be opening on Friday, Oct 24 as previously stated. When will we open? Since we can't predict the weather, we can't tell you. We think we'll pick October 31st because it's Halloween, payday and about a week later than we thought. Seriously, as soon as we know, we will tell you! We're working on it.

bummer ;(

The temp dropped below 32 degrees at about 2h30 last night... and Loveland is making snow this morning. I hope that the cold is back to stay, for them !!

Both Loveland and A-basin are blowing snow today... especially Loveland, where the lower part of the trail is now quite white, according to the cam :

So if it continues to be cold all the next night, it should open very soon. Tougher to say for A-basin.

It begins to look good in Colorado !

Here is the comment of A-basin :

Opening Day - Sometime very soon! ::
Today is Sunday, October, 26 - Well, things have changed a bit on our mountain. The last few nights have been COLD and our snowmaking crew has been kicking a little butt. (Can I say that?) It's all coming down to the wire. Give us a few more days and as soon as we know we will tell you -- right here.

Loveland :

like we would say in french : "ça s'en vient en titi !!!!!"

The blue part is the part ready to open.

The orange is the "snowmaking in progress" but last week, there was holes in the line, where there was no snow, so it means that it's really about to open. Prediction : if the temperature continue to be low : October 29 (or even 28, if they want to be sure to beat A-basin).

Nope, opening tomorrow (Tuesday) at 9 am. We should have a story in a couple of hours -- just putting together the reacting comment from neighbor A-Basin.
