Mad River Glen VT, 3/27-3/28

On Friday night, I crossed the White River near Bethel and was greeted by fog. It got
really dense after I turned onto Route 17; so much that I slowed to a crawl and found out that
I was on the wrong side of the road. A pair of
pints at the Hyde Away were well earned.

On Saturday morning ..... oh sh*t. At our morning meeting, we were told that it was
indeed Mad RIVER Glen ..... as in river flowing
down the trails. We took a huge hit. Snow was
rotten and we closed the woods as well as much
on-piste.

Later in the day, we got the word that
Sunday was to be the last day and we started to
take down the mountain. Carrying 'boo in the
soft snow was demanding.

For sweep, I was assigned to go down the
closed Gazelle and pick up 'boo. The snow was
glop and challenging and I took care not to blow
out a knee.

On Sunday - PERFECT SPRING SKIING !!! I started off by getting some soft corduroy down
the BRUTALLY GROOMED Fox/Vixen/Broadway, picking
off more 'boo and signage. Taking down a ski
area is tough work.

We opened up a lot more terrain, and got in some
great corn snow. Panther/Gazelle, Ferret/Glade,
Partridge were winners under bright blue skies.
We hit some nice bumps on Gazelle below Quacky
III.

The whole day was very festive - people were laughing as they schussed across mud to
connect the patches of corn. Jamey our GM, made
a few phone calls the prior day to get a band to
play outside and the order was made to stay open
'til 4:30PM !! Fortunately, he likes to ski and
party as much as we do.

For sweep, I was assigned Gazelle again.
We had to clean off anything that remained and then hustle down to The Single before it closed
for the day. We were greeted by the rest of the
Patrol by a hail of snowballs.

Sweep off of The Single for me was down
Chute. Temps had dropped and it was transformed
into a coral reef. But, it did not detract from
a classic sping skiing day.

NOTE: an attempt will be made to re-open for next Saturday, so stay tuned.
