Monday Bloody Monday...

Jason, you're driving yourself nuts. Stop looking at the models.

Anthony, I'd like to see more pix of your rink. Gotta love the hockey insanity north of the border. I played hockey from age 5 to 17. We had a pond up in the woods of Central New York... nothing like it.

The models seem to be shifting. The rain doesn't seem to be going as far north, and is hanging around as much. Hopefully, this will turn out like the storm last week: all doom and gloom, and then surprise! It snows.

But I prefer to be a pessimist. That way I'm never disappointed.

We are heading to Jay for the week starting Sunday. I'm remaining pessimistic with a tinge or two of hopefulness and bringing the Quebec province map and passports just in case...

Head north! Head north! The forecast are still looking brutal for all the resorts south of the border. I can tell you that the Torngats should weather this storm beautifully. Bring a shotgun though, I hear polar bear bites hurt like a mother.

more importantly the ecwmf 12z is showing more suppression later in the period..

at least mondays event is relatively quick

Don't beat yourself up on this one... I'm going to wait it out. As far as I can tell, Monday will be a wash out anyway. I am heading to Killington, VT for the week.

Maybe I will head up there Monday to arrive in the afternoon or later, forget about skiing that day and go see Collective Soul perform that evening.

I welcome your thoughts on this,

Anthony

you may want to ski monday as the rain may provide the best surfaces to ski for the week unless of course we get some snow to go with the cold.
if no snow, it'll be glacierific for sure. with the vaca crowds you could rock out to burmingham and ride the edges where the joes will push the snow.
have fun, ski pico

Ah... perfect wonderful creamy rain corn.... Any self-respecting eastern skier has to know that rain surfaces are really not that bad for skiing. You can get good conditions out of it. The freeze afterwards, well that's a different story. More importantly, if it rains and we end up with boiler plate, we must remember a day on the mountain is better than one not. Just because it's icy doesn't mean its bad skiing. Get your best carving skis, sharpen their edges and carve like a maniac...

Do I sound resigned to ski less than stellar conditions?

Yep, trying to decide if I go to Belleayre on Sunday with temps in high 30s, but possible big crowds, or throw on the garbage bag for Monday. True dat, rain-soaked snow can be good.

It is usually nice n soft. The only thing I hate about it is the fog coming from below your feet......grrrr I hate skiing by braille.

Damn, gotta love Quebec.

I remember a few years ago getting involved in a game on a similar backyard rink in the Cote des Neiges... what impressed me was that the girls (several of them very cute) skated as well as the guys.

The rain started today :(
It's a shame, because the conditions today at whiteface were really superb. If last years storm was known as the valentines day storm, this should be known as the presidents day massacre.
