Mont-Edouard: Dec 26 A boxing day?

Mont-Edouard-L'Anse-Saint-Jean (Saguenay Fjord Region). 3 hour drive North of Quebec City. Far away from home but not so cold this year. Very strange feeling to be warm here in this time of season. Only 0ne inch this morning less than Chicoutimi (only 45 minutes drive).

All ski trails were open. Heaven then? Not really! That crispy snow. King of a boxing day on skis! Not rain but freezin' rain and few snow to finish the job. Started skiing too much later. Too much talking not so much skiing. Did the woods Clusaz, really nice also the 3B with some moguls and the #4 or Tableau which means vertical blackboard or name of a famous climbing wall in neighborhood. It was windy in Dec so some bush in this steep (for the place!) trails.

Very cloudy today. Pictures not so much nice. Since I'm at Mt-Edouard for 7 days, expected more action from the slopes in next days. Some secret too like Vallee cachee much longer and the infamous Robin from the woods or the 3.5 tight chute. Many couloirs from the upper woods too.

Is he sick???

Today (Dec 27) the set up was to be more aventurous and explore the Valley of Birch or Secret Valley. Not really a secret anymore but very few riders to meet anyway. More longer than last year. 4 different trails or exits the longest coming out almost at the base. Tight couloirs between spruces and birches. Very fun and out of reach of Eole the god of wind. Lot of snow to cover up.

Soft pack and loose powder mixing with hard pack at some spots. Kind of a glades that make you be warmer very fast. So it went like this: you have the choice of 2 woods on top of the mountain: Clusaz or Refuge (right from summit hut-just a little walk from the quad). Tight chutes many of them. Then the Valey of Birch. Some mysterious out of bounds trail more official but not patrolled. Nearly 1500 feet vertical drop that's interesting.
Some others prefer #4 ski trail. I was there to get some pictures.

Wow, you have internet access in Anse-St-Jean? I don't even have access in Montreal (although I'm not in Montreal, but in Ottawa...skiing).

Beautiful pictures and definitely on my very short list of places I want to ski in the East. Can't wait to see updates.

Dec 29 at Mont-Edouard. 4 inches of fresh this morning. Pow all day long. No wind. Warm with 25F. What a day of skiiing! Few people on the mountain. Lift-line? A 30 sec. waiting period! Best conditions so far after the rain. Forecast of 4 inches for tomorrow. Lot of wind? From the East no problem!
Valley of birch a must today. Many telemarkers on the slopes. Boarders in the woods. And me everywhere!!!Sick! Sick! 40 inches of fresh off-piste inbounds.
