name of ski area next to wind farm in Canada

while flying back from Europe. My friend spotted a wind farm next to a ski area in northeastern Canada. does any one know the name of the ski area?

Given the flight pattern coming across the pond, I'd have to guess that it's in Atlantic Canada somewhere rather than in Quebec (I'm assuming that it was a flight into NYC). Sorry I can't help more.

the flight was to JFK

Well, I just thought of another way I might help.

That route should take the passenger over Atlantic Canada, as mentioned before. Below is a portion of my now-famous 8) North American ski map depicting all known Atlantic Canada ski areas, and those in adjacent border areas of Maine, highlighted and marked with name, address and URL if known. I've reformatted it down to fit the boards, but it should still be legible. I dare say that map is pretty darned conclusive after years of research. Some of those ski areas depicted may have ceased operation since I created that map and not reopened. Ski Cape Smokey is one of those as far as I know.

Looks like Big Rock in northeastern Maine, right by the New Brunswick border, may have a wind farm under construction.

2004 info:

This article from last week seems to indicate that the farm will be operational by 2007:

I've copied below a Google Earth photo -- only low-res is available for that area -- so you can ask your friend if that's what it looked like from the air.

I didn't know about it. I believe that there are a few missing in Northern New Brunswick on the map.

Where is this map?

On my PC. I've emailed a bunch of copies earlier this season from mention in a different thread. It's in Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 format, so one needs to use a copy of that to view it. There are third-party apps that will convert the POI entries for the ski areas into other formats -- POIConverter perhaps being the most widely known and used -- but it only works with earlier versions of Streets and Trips, and S&T converted my ski area file to 2006 the first time it was opened in the new program. I'm sure that it won't be long before POIConverter is updated to accomodate S&T 2006 files. I've been unable to find a program that yet handles them, and I'm anxious to find one as I'd like to be able to load these POIs into TomTom Navigator, which I'm running on my Palm in the car with a bluetooth GPS.

If you have the program, I'd be happy to email you the file. Any and all additions and corrections are welcome.

hmmmmm Mt Miller... my ski dream (in Qc)..... hmmm

Next year I hope... too much people I know got the chance to ski it this winter grrrr...

I may have missed something... but unless you put the link yesterday, Mt Miller was already on your map... at Murdochville, in eastern Gaspesia.

However, I noticed that you don't have Mt Béchervaise (±1000' high, 14 trails, 4 surface lifts), way farther east, next to Gaspé.

About 15 zoneskiers were in Gaspesia at Val D'Irène, 10 days ago, for the closing day (with about 100% of the terrain open, including the 45-50 degrees extreme trails of the no lift serviced (bus) north wild side). As of what we've heard and seen this year, the best mountains in the region are Val d'Irène, Mt Miller and Mt Castor. (Mt Pin Rouge, Restigouche and Béchervaise have a higher vertical drop, but they don't have a lot of snow due to very low elevation (something like 150' at the bottom)... while Miller is above 2000' at the bottom hill...

if you want to see how the 3 look like :

Thanks, Frank. That's one I didn't have -- I found the address (50 rue Eden in Gaspe) but not a web site. Do you know of one?

When I created the map I used the ASSQ list to be as conclusive in Quebec as possible. I guess that they don't belong to the ASSQ.

I've updated my local map with Bechervaise, but not the web one yet.

Frank also made a map based on Google that includes all of the Quebec ski areas (including some that weren't members of the ASSQ).

The maps on Zoneski:

Provincial Map:

Lower Laurentians:

Laurentians / Launaudière:

Eastern Townships:

Mauricie (North of Trois-Rivières, or Three-Rivers as my dad would say):

Quebec City area:

Outaouais (North of Ottawa):

And yes, there are a few ski areas in Northern New Brunswick that aren't on your list.

Look at all these people making maps and their not even geographer.

The ASSQ still miss a few ski areas in QC, even though each year 1 or 2 ski areas enter into their ski areas...

Centre de Ski de Val d'Or
Mont Chilly
Mont Miller
Mont Béchervaise
Ski Vorlage
Centre de Ski de Cabano
Centre de Ski de St-Georges
Club de ski de Beauce
Mont Daniel ? (were're currently trying to confirm if it's in operation or not)

For Mt Béchervaise, they don't have a website, but you can check out some pics and trail map (by photo) at this address :
