New ski in the East photo/video movie

Now that I have a computer with Moviemaker, I took the time to build a new slide show with music of my ski season 2003-04.

It's a bit late, as we're closing on 2004-05, but I didn't have any software to do so until few weeks ago.

It begins on mid-october 2003, so it's sure the few first pics are not super white :)

I must say that I'm a beginner with that, so it's sure it's far from a professionnal movie :(

Also the captions are small (as I needed to resize them) and in french, but it's not complicated to understand...

PS : put the sound on your computer :):)

Just watched your slideshow. Looks like some sweet skiing. I remember seeing alot of those pictures last year in TR's on the old forums. And I could figure out what all the french meant, it was pretty simple. I hope to get up to mss for opening day and then maybe a few other trips up to quebec this winter to ski. Looks like lots of good skiing and fun to be had.

Very enjoyable, Frank! Thanks for sharing it. Welcome to the world of making videos, but a warning: it's addicting.

Yeah, I know it is ! (addicting)

I was working on this "movie" since june, but I didn't have a moviemaker software... I passed I don't know how many hours on it to make it nice ;)

Now I have + I have a new Canon A-75 (with video + sound) so you can guess it's not my last one !

Thanks for the good comments Woodi ! I don't think I'm going to be at the opening this year at MSS, as it looks like it will be midweek, between nov 8 and 12. But I'll try to ski it on the 13th. (saturday)

There is many great mountains in the province, but the sad thing is that many of the best ones are quite far up north or east.

(just thinking to Mt Edouard, the Massif du Sud, Mt Miller, etc)

Anyway, I hope you'll have some fun in the province on your skis this year ;)

Yeah, Mt Miller

Not a real big ski area (just 800' high).... but what a 800' high...........

This is actually the dream of any skiers here, if only it wouldn't be at Murdochville (future (soon) ghost town)

You know the amounts of snow in this area close to the Chic-Choc. + the base of the mountain is at 2100'

There is just a t-bar for all the 20 trails, even though there is 2 peaks. You can take the lower 2/3 of the trails via a traverse without walking, but you can hike to reach the top 1/3 of the second peak... which is an extreme side with a lot of trails going up to 60 degrees. With 20+ feet of snow in average by year and a lone t-bar for ±12 trails only accessible by a short hike, it is an extreme paradise !

Here is a few pics I have for this mountain :

You wanna have an idea of the steepness ? This is an INTERMEDIATE trail

And some other found on the web

I had no idea that was even there -- thanks! I particularly enjoyed the photos.

You raised my curiosity by this statement, and for those who may be as curious as I was, I found this explanation on the WWW. Now I understand.

The website for the town claims that they have received the most snowfall in the whole province of Quebec for the past 2 years running, according to the government weather service.

Yeah, Murdochville will be closed as all of the companies in the city are left. There was originally something like 15000 persons there and there is only 1000 remaining (this was last year, it's probably less now)

This could be operated as a private powder stash (it would cost about nothing to buy it), but the problem is that it's SO FAR from all and it's not a big enough mountain to build a real ski resort :(

I didn't even know that Murdochville had a ski area, and I've been skiing backcountry in the Chic-Chocs the last 3 years!! Wow!
Too bad that the town is folding up, there's not much over that way.

Hey Frank!

Just watched your movie, very nice! I see where your avatar came from now :D

Was glad to see Mont Orford's Passe de' l Ours made the flick, and also enjoyed the scene from Mont Edouard. I need to get back to Edouard :D
