Talk about a forgotten place. Well I never forget about it. Not wanting to deal with crowds I headed up to Platt with my girlfriend (doesn't ski), and ex sister in-law and her kids. The place was pretty empty and the snow was great. Since they are closed during the week ....it just sits there. No ice anywhere to be found, just natural and manmade in perfect shape. Blockbuster now has snowmaking so my rock skis where not needed, bumps everywhere on all the double d's. A really good day was had. just made endless laps until the legs gave out.
Monday...empty, I mean really empty. Picked up about 4 inches overnight, thank god no rain. The snow was heavy which helped the moguls grow...and grow. Pretty much spent the day as the day before..until the legs gave out, which happened sooner as this stuff was like glue after a while. There where times when no one was going down some of the slopes, thats how empty it was. Then a large group would make their way down, with much yardsaling at times. It was pretty tough conditions...for some. I had a blast.
We stayed at the Roxbury Hotel. This was one of the best and most unusual places I have ever stayed. Theme rooms, and pretty new at that. They dumped a fortune into the place, everything pretty much top notch. Good food in the morning, free dvd rentals. A realy nice place, highly recommended. Not cheap though but you get what you pay for. Of course the ride home was a nightmare but thats MLK weekend.

I went on the 16th, have to imagine the crowds were bigger since it was a Saturday. Can't help but love the place!:

I don't know how Laszlo and Danielle keep that place going, but they deserve some sort of medal.

Those pics I put up, the parking lots were actually full and cars were parked on the roads. Oh, Laszlo was helping to park cars.

Looks like Monday did. There where far more people in the lodge...than on the lifts. Sunday was kind of crowded...for Plattekille.

It's not an original thought, but unless you know that it's a Powder Daize situation or are really motivated not to ski Belleayre, those additional 20 minutes after Highmount are what kill Plattekill's ski-day numbers.

Totaly true as Belleayre is right off 28...and God forbid you try to cut through Fleishmans to get to 30...like the damn gps had me do..........and I don't know why I did it as I know the right way to go, just never tried that way. MOUNTAIN roads, steep as hell, it was puking pretty good, sliding down the road...and just to get back from The Peakamoose , a very good place to eat. I'm convinced my GPS is trying to kill me as it did the same thing to me up in Vermont.

I payed it off :-D

I had the Peekamoose in my crosshairs on Saturday -- would have been a perfect stop on the way home -- but Henpecked Harvey HAD to get home to see lovey... and I relented. That ain't happening again.
:x

The gauntlet has been dropped.

MASH skier with the most non-family ski days wins the prize for most understanding wife.

May the best Henrietta win.

Plattekill's a great place! Sheahunter and I filmed and I produced a video in 2004 that gives a good feel for the hill:

[skitube2]http://www.firsttracksonline.com/modules/crpVideo/pnmedia/videos/1227402387_powderdaize_part001.flv[/skitube2]

Laszlo still talks about that one. It includes currently active forum participants Sheahunter and yours truly as well as former moderator Jim G. (who dropped off the planet 8-[ ), and former members Telenaut (who realized from that video that his pole plants were on the wrong side) and Will Galway. Will's father Bill came up that day, too.
