Marc,c'mon.Cant we get the longtime posters some credit for past posts? Some sort of grandfather clause? My green circle bugs me.How many posts do we need to advance?I'm going to start posting reports in 10 parts this winter to get my double diamond.

heh! Blue square comes at 50, black diamond at 100. Double-black is used to denote moderators.

Yeah, I suppose that I could use postings on the old boards to adjust ranks. Let me see if I have time to address that tomorrow. Got family visiting and right now we're driving back from a daytrip to Manhattan. Gotta love the Liftlines configuration for wireless PDAs! :-)

OK, NHpowderhound, you've got your wish. I added a modification to the boards' program that allows me to manually edit user post counts, and I adjusted them as best I could tell by searching the old boards (they did not have a user post count utility). I think that I've correctly updated everyone who had posted to the previous boards, but if I've omitted anyone please send me an IM.

Those who are interested can find that portion of the FAQ (it's found in the blue navigational menu atop any page) that deals with user ranks here.

I knew that my posts lead over Frankontour wouldn't last, but I didn't expect him pass me by over 1000 in one weekend.

Busy weekend Frank.

Never counted my posts, only my ski days.

Once again, Great job Marc.

HOLY ****

1350 messages on the old board

tough to believe it !

I really write too much. + it was totally not to see my number of messages growing, as it was not counted on the old boards.

I'm a bit shy now...

Hey!! Where is that? Can I sync this to my PDA when I upload in the morning? I hook up to advantgo before I leave for work and download news, weather, local ski reports etc, then read it all when I get there. Would add you to the list if I only knew how

Aah, another AvantGo user!

You can download the last 14 days of our original-content Ski News by adding the following URL as a custom channel that's reasonably optimized for AvantGo (I just need to implement tables to narrow the column, but I'll do that now that someone else is interested in it):

http://www.firsttracksonline.com/news3.shtm

It loads a bit slowly, but it works. AvantGo gets a little bent out of shape about gobs of people using it without the content provider paying a licensing fee, so I haven't publicized that URL.

As for the Liftlines forums, that requires a wireless PDA, i.e. a Palm or Windows Mobile smartphone for go-anywhere access, or a Tungsten E or similar model for WiFi use. I'm using a PalmOne Treo 600. Details for PDA access are located here.

I'll work on optimizing that AvantGo page tonight.

I've got it about as optimized as I'm going to get it. For some reason (I suspect the images in the stories) the last character or two of each line is chopped off on my 160x120 Treo screen. No biggie in the greater scheme of things, and not worth trying further to figure out why it's doing it (fixing it may not even be possible with the CGI used to create the page).

Hey!!

I added FTO to my advantgo account!
After 30 minutes I'm still not sync'd. How long does it take you?

Less than 30 seconds. You must've set the levels and offsite links incorrectly.

Max channel size: 100k
Link depth: 0

How big is your site? I have 240k of available space. I could live without a couple of subscriptions if I needed to make room for FTO.

Typically 50-60k. It never goes over 100k.

Alright here's what I've done:

Copy and pasted above link into channel location.
Set max size to 100.
No to both images and off site links...what gives?

Set "link depth" to zero.

OK, I'm in!!!

Nice job Mark :D :D

I have a Toshiba E400. Probably has a smaller screen than you. I have to scroll about 0.5-0.75 inch to read the news.

Great! Now between all the other links I should be able to keep up with the ski news on the road. I was going to buy a wireless card this week, but I blew my extra cash on a pair of Koflach double plastic mountaineering boots #-o What was I thinking???

Thanks again!

btw, these PDA's are great for nurses. Your wife would probably like one. Lots of software for looking up meds, figuring IV drips etc. Maybe for Christmas...

I gave her a Treo 300. It's now a $300 solitaire game. #-o

Groan.......
Here's a thought. Go to epocrates.com and get the free download. It's all drugs, dosages, interactions etc. Maybe if she eases into it with a drug program, she'll warm up to the idea of using it.

It took me a while to entrust my pocket full of medical reference manuals to a PDA, but after about 2 months I'm convinced. Since then, I've added my address book, schedule, and a few other personal touches, like advantgo. Perhaps once she sees how useful it can be, she'll come around.
