Forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday is not looking good for most of New England. Going to be warm and rainy (flood watches have already been posted for many rivers and streams). Unfortunately, the good conditions of the last weekend are going to be washed away at many areas.

Berk -

How many days do you have this year... and how many were good or better? Maybe I'm not paying super close attention, but I recall you're having a pretty good season. I know I am.

Got my skiing in last week, now I'm going to catch up on the rest of life and wait for Winter, Part 4.

Powderfreak thinks that a bigger concern will be heavy ice storm damage across SoVT and the Adirondacks.

wx looks kinda challenging huh? could be snow up north somewhere by wed for a few spots. i'll wait till early a.m. tues as to what to do. maybe my first jay trip this year, winds? all the better for the skinnin. one things for sure, we're gonna get somethin!

Harvey - I've had a fairly good winter so far in terms of my skiing. I'm not sure of the exact number of days that I've skied, but it has been pretty much every Saturday and Sunday since a couple of weeks prior to Christmas plus a five ski day trip to Utah (Park City - 3 days and Deer Valley - 2 days) in February. The conditions locally (western Mass where I do most of my skiing) have been mixed at best - they were quite good before Christmas when we had cold weather and a couple of decent size snowstorms. Then, the conditions deteriorated over Christmas vacation with weather too warm to make snow. Then, the conditions improved right around New Year's when we had a decent size snowstorm. Then, they went downhill fast when we had 60 degree temperatures for a few days in early January and wiped out alot of the existing base. Since January, we've had bouts of cold weather (good for snowmaking) followed by warmer periods with several storms thrown in that start out as snow, then change to freezing rain, and then it turns cold and everything on the mountain freezes into something resembling a hockey rink. We've already had five "mud seasons" this winter with the changes in temperature. The conditions this past Sunday (after the snowfall on Friday and Saturday got groomed out) were probably as good as anything this whole season, but it looks like we're going to lose those conditions with the rain and warm weather coming in. I would go crazy if I owned a ski resort around here. The highlight of my ski season so far was the trip to Utah - great weather and great skiing. I hope to have some more good ski days in March and early April.

I guess I may be cleaning my house this weekend. Probably needs it since I've been away so much this year.

Is this one of the worst wx? Tuesday kinda made me laugh.

Tonight: Periods of rain, mainly after 1am. Low around 39. South wind between 6 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Periods of freezing rain and sleet before 10am, then periods of sleet between 10am and 4pm, then periods of freezing rain and sleet after 4pm. High near 39. North wind between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Tuesday Night: Periods of freezing rain and sleet before 10pm, then periods of rain. Low around 35. East wind between 8 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Wednesday: Rain showers likely, mixing with snow after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. West wind between 13 and 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

It is funny. That's what happens when computers take control.

And see I NEED TO KNOW what's going to be falling at 9:45 pm on Tues.

Yea, Sharon and Harvey, the next couple of days are NOT going to be good for skiing in New England. Alot of snow is going to be washed away, I'm afraid to say. Far Northern New England may be spared the worst of it, although they may end up with a bad ice storm.

good week for me to sleep off this cold i picked up from not enough sleep and way too much skiing. les is off to whistler this a.m. and i'm left with charlie dog to sniffle and reflect.
maybe it'll snow!

Would like to hear Jason's opinion on this....seems to me that when FZRA is in the forecast you are in worse shape then when they are calling for snow or nair. In the second scenario the cold air is aloft and warm below, and in the first, the opposite.

When the cold is above it seems to me there's a better chance for good things to happen. The end of the week looks to be in that second category...J...am I dreaming or on to something?

Yea, the end of week storm, if it develops, may be interesting for alot of the Northeast. Henry Margusity at Accuweather is already starting to hype this upcoming storm as a potential big snow maker for interior New England. The next couple of days (Tuesday and Wednesday) still look ugly for southern and middle NE. Far northern NE may be spared the worst of the rain and ice and may acutually end up with a net positive amount of snow.

Lets all of us up here pray this is true.

We got a few hours of freezing drizzle in the early hours of Monday.

EC (Environment Canada) is calling for 10cm in town on Wednesday with a slight mix of rain.

For those wondering about Northern New England, EC has a winter storm warning for the Eastern Townships. Snow amounts would be greater in high elevations.

Snowfall warning for
Estrie continued

15 to 30 cm of snow are expected over these regions.

A major storm is forecasted over the province of Québec tonight...

A major low pressure system over the southeastern states will move
northeastward and track just south of our regions Wednesday.
Significant amounts of snow are expected with this storm over a large
area of the province.

The snow will begin tonight over the south and will spread rapidly
toward the central and eastern regions later on.
A total of 15 to 25
centimetres of snow is expected over the warned regions.
These amounts could even reach 35 cm between the Laurentians and
Québec city. In addition, strong northeast winds combined with the
snow will cause widespread blowing snow mostly along the St Lawrence river.

The snow will become mixed with ice pellets with a risk of freezing
rain Wednesday over the southern areas of the St Lawrence river.

The evolution of this major storm will continue to be monitored.
A slight change in its track could increase or decrease the amount of
snow expected.
