Harvey - I've had a fairly good winter so far in terms of my skiing. I'm not sure of the exact number of days that I've skied, but it has been pretty much every Saturday and Sunday since a couple of weeks prior to Christmas plus a five ski day trip to Utah (Park City - 3 days and Deer Valley - 2 days) in February. The conditions locally (western Mass where I do most of my skiing) have been mixed at best - they were quite good before Christmas when we had cold weather and a couple of decent size snowstorms. Then, the conditions deteriorated over Christmas vacation with weather too warm to make snow. Then, the conditions improved right around New Year's when we had a decent size snowstorm. Then, they went downhill fast when we had 60 degree temperatures for a few days in early January and wiped out alot of the existing base. Since January, we've had bouts of cold weather (good for snowmaking) followed by warmer periods with several storms thrown in that start out as snow, then change to freezing rain, and then it turns cold and everything on the mountain freezes into something resembling a hockey rink. We've already had five "mud seasons" this winter with the changes in temperature. The conditions this past Sunday (after the snowfall on Friday and Saturday got groomed out) were probably as good as anything this whole season, but it looks like we're going to lose those conditions with the rain and warm weather coming in. I would go crazy if I owned a ski resort around here. The highlight of my ski season so far was the trip to Utah - great weather and great skiing. I hope to have some more good ski days in March and early April.
