Reality Check$$$$

My wife's family live in Jackson Hole and we have been lucky enough to go out there on a fairly regular basis over the past ten years. BUT NOW... I just went onto Obitz to price out a ticket for round trip from East Coast to JH and got the low price of $1,063. We used to pay @ $389 / rt. Guess I'll be saying goodbye to Teton Pass.... :(

Jackson Hole is a perfect example of a domestic destination you should never pay for... the cheapest tickets from the EC are always $450~, and this year, as you point out, much more.

I've gone there four times in the past eight years and always cashed FF miles.

There's always the option of flying into SLC and driving the 5+ hrs. Other options would be Idaho Falls or other kinda-sorta nearby places that don't command the upcharge, although your connections may be strange.

FF miles are great, if you have them, if the airlines have any FF seats for your destination, if it's when you want to fly; and they're getting more strict/scarce all the time. I suspect it won't be that long before we see the demise of all FF programs.

Remind us again of the number of days you spent in Utah this past season?

He was on a tour of your world-class restaurants and renown cultural institutions. Skiing was purely incidental.

My wife and I rack up many FF miles and have never been able to use them to fly into JH. Our only saving grace is that we have family to stay with out there and don't have to pay for hotel accomadations. Plus they take us up the Teton Pass and know all the secret stashes. I've considered the SLC drive to JH run, but, the weather is too upredictable. A 5 hour drive could turn into 24 hrs, and my wife's family don't leave the valley in the winter without a sleeping bag, water, food and a bottle stove in the car, just in case. We'll most likely suck it up and pay the fare, but frankly, if we did't have family to visit in JH, I'd rather ski at Alta.

There are ways to get to JH other than going over Teton Pass that are far less susceptible to weather, and take about the same amount of time.

Probably a good idea in any case.
