Retirement Road Trips

Here's Feb. 8 - Mar. 15, 2026, 4,186 miles:

I drove to Mammoth on Super Bowl Sunday, skied one day there, then 4 at Tahoe. Over President's weekend I drove to Golden, B.C. with a few hours skiing at Brundage on the way. I had cat skiing at Chatter Creek and Island Lake, with Panorama and Fairmont Hot Springs in between, then Fernie and Castle afterwards. I skied Showdown in Montana before picking up Liz in Bozeman. We skied Bridger, Big Sky and Yellowstone Club before finishing the trip with Iron Blosam Week. Longest drive 510 miles, 1,129 miles in 3 days including the ski day at Brundage. This trip was in the Cayenne due to much travel in remote areas.

Contrary to the U.S., I never see cops with radar guns over there; it's all electronic cameras that send you tickets in the mail.
On my recent trip to Innsbruck, several times I saw police standing outside their cars with old-school radar units, especially as you left the village at the bottom of a ski area access road. Waze warned us about all of them.

@Tony Crocker, someone has probably asked before but remind me/us:
  • Why you don't label your stops A through Z based on chronology?
  • Where you wash your clothes on a seven-week road trip -- via room service? :eusa-think: I don't see you in a laundromat with a Porsche.

I believe there are limits to the number of stops you can input in a Google Maps itinerary. My trip planning can spin out of control.

I have washed base layers /underwear in a sink. Otherwise.....

Each layer is limited to 10 points (A-J). There's an overall limit of 10 layers.

In the course of these road trips, an occasional hotel will have a laundry room on site. In this case it was Fernie. I also did laundry at my hosts Bob and Pat's home in Reno after 5 ski days because I didn't know when the next convenient place would be. On the Alps trip the B&B in Les Agettes had a washer/dryer in our suite.
