I personally didn't travel as much this year, because the skiing close to home was so good.

That's what 2004-05 was for me.

The stairstep pattern of 2004-05 is due to getting fresh snow on most of my Sierra 2-4 day trips plus a couple local ones at Baldy. But you have to be lucky to get that. In the rest of the seasons on that powder graph it's quite obvious from the near vertical sections when the cat or heli trips were.

In terms of powder Patrick got a 40 year event at his local areas this season. Over the long run I think Sharon's model works better from a similar location. Better to spend the "apocalypse" capital on a couple of western trips per season (one of those being Morgane's spring break for less apocalypse) than hope the weather cooperates on most of the fixed dates free of family obligations.

The only way that I can hope to get my seasons to be similar to Powderfreak,Icelandic and salida, is to abandon my family and quit my job. :shock:

Don't do that. My only commitment right now is to make some money so I can ski more.

ya, my only commitment is to bide my time on the seacoast with my job which i love and move to a store further north so that i can ski more and chase less. 100 days skiing so far livin on the seacoast this season with at least 80% in stellar conditions ain't bad but, it took a lot of effort to maximize hitting the goods by jumpin all over the place. funny that one of my best pow days for snow quality, density, depth and lack of crowds was at sunapee at the end of march and it's the closest good skiing to my home at 1.5 hours away. i used to be a season pass holder at burke, which was good at jay and a couple of others and i owned a home at burke as well but i hit way better conditions more often as a nomad skier now than then but, it was nice to have a place to go every week without thought.
got another month to go or so here for turns and am already lookin forward to another nomadic existence next season.

Well, I went, euh I meant my brother Doug went to the ski area with the greatest snow accumulation in North America and didn't get as much powder as if I would have continue traveling in the East (although Lucky got lukcy and hit the jakepot). Yes, I got some fresh powder in BC, so did salida and powderfreak most of the winter in little old Vermont.

I personally don't have any complaints in my last TWO Eastern seasons. If the snow is good locally like this year, I'll take advantage of it, if not I head in the eye of the storm like I've been going.

Fixed dates free of family obligations? I'm already up to 56 days. I skied 61 and 54 days the previous years. Yes, I didn't have as much flexibility, but I do want to be there for family occasions. Powder days are more frequent than Birthdays, Concert, School or Dance shows. However I also don't agree with your day quality categories. Last Sunday was as much fun as a Winter day, I truly enjoyed himself regardless of what Mother Nature gives out. It's what make it fun. Skiing perfect conditions would bore me over time, you need to push the comfort level and challenge yourself.

Ask Salida, Gpetrics, Harvey44 or James if they didn't have fun on the days I was out. We all had a great time, planned days or not, that isn't the point. I might have had a hand full of bad days out of 56, that includes rain or skiing on one night on a vertical ice rink at -20c. Those days were almost one existent this year.

Don't do that.

I won't, but the only way I could ski more WOULD BE to quit my family and job. I don't necessarily want to ski more and I don't think that what I did sucked this year. Far from it. When the kids are older, I'll be free to set lose again across the East...unless one or two girls get in a race program. :? :wink:
