interesting to hear alot of folks complaining about only skiing a foot o fresh. i tend to think that any more than that at most places wouldn't ski as well or any better.
after skiing some deluxe dry light pow on a not hard at all base at stowe for two days, tenney was my, on my way to work ski choice. the last time i rode tenney was in 89-90 when i competed at the then annual tenney mountain/funky snowboard bash, a two day event where one day you raced slalom and the next was halfpipe. it wasn't part of a series like the new england cup or green mountain series, it was all it's own which was my favorite type of racing in those days. i got like 3rd overall and a trophy.
1st thing i noticed today from my memory was that nothing had changed. funky base setup, lodge, parking situation, lack of signage. the 1400 vert is covered with twisty, weird, character filled alley's and pitchy things all over the place. les and i were the 1st in the lodge at 8:40 and on the chair at 9. after the first run, the lifty for the torturous 13 minute summit double said we were still the only people on the hill and "how is it"? i looked at him and said, "are you kiddin me, were you even open yesterday"? fresh pow all over and some great tree skiing on and off the map all over the place. the mountain is deceiving as just when you think you know where you're goin, your not, where you thought you were so, les said "let's not think at all and just flow" great advice!
2-3 runs per hour with exploring was interesting coming from HSQ chairs but, just being in a mellow place put me in a much better place after the chaos of stowe yesterday and the snow was even deeper and fresher in full view of the lift. 70 skiers i was told by the girl at the desk was a pretty busy day today, i smiled and said "yeah" with an exhale. took a few runs, lots of long untracked glades that noone hit yesterday-ok and the groomers were of the, sink 3-4 inches every turn and get launched in to orbit into the next one, variety
EMS, the company that i've been happily working for is running an outdoor adventure program out of tenney and wants to help keep the place open and it's nice to see people and staff having a great time.
it was a bummer to have to leave for work at noon but, i great way to start the day on my 3rd pow day in a row after the 3 in a row last week.
tomorrow at 6:30 am or in a few hours another pow day will start for some bc skiing in central nh away from the lifts, get it while the gettins good i say, which has been over 3 months in a row now with a solid 4 months to go at this rate, maybe a 100+ day ski season, two 3rd's the way there, i love this, "way back in the day" winter!

nice. I opted for Cannon yesterday, mostly on the strength of the 2-for-1 deal, and was utterly surprised to find up to 10" of new fluff (on top of the heavy stuff that was skiied out the day before) in many places on the upper mountain. Got several untracked lines on Profile before it got chopped up a bit, cranked down Upper Hardscrabble on huge, pillowy bumps, the remnants of the previous days activity, now covered with light fluff. From there, I headed over to Tramline, where I saw only two, maybe three tracks down the whole run. Couldn't believe it. What a blast that was, all by myself (until I neared the bottom and found two young'uns, out of their league, sliding down on their butts, as I blasted past them). Next up was Kinsman Glade, which wasn't too tracked up yet, and was actually virgin at the bottom left drainage. Amazing. From there, I did one slackcountry run that was ridiculous. Finished up the day with Banshee Glade, Avalanche, and a couple runs down Zoomer, which was still great (especially when I ducked the rope on the bottom portion for some nice untracked goods!). Bluebird day, no wind to speak of; a rarity at Cannon. A truly spectacular day.

I was there too with my wife and kids. It was like having a private ski area. I could believe there were so few people there. We had a great day and the snow was fantastic. Skied 2-for-1 on our EMS special offer thingy's. Most of the on-piste was pretty tracked up but there were still little stashes here and there. I would have liked to have a wider ski to enjoy it a little more as my narrow waisted skis sunk pretty bad. I went over the handlebars a couple of times and popped out of my heels a time or two. I was hoping I could demo some Icelantics up there but it didn't look like there anywhere to get them. It was a great day and a warm up for a Friday Jay excursion.

yo skibum! funny, i think i saw you and the fam enjoying the day. for icelantic demos, concord ems has namad/naxo demos and north conway has demos. save receipt and i'll refund demo fee and give a healthy discount as well.

Thanks Roger! You probably did see us and we probably saw you. We will still be getting up to North Conway at least one more time this year so I hope to demo a pair up there. I demo'd a pair of Gotama's when up at Jay on Friday and it really makes skiing deeper snow a lot easier....and more fun. I gotta get my wife on a pair of wider skis. She hates skiing powder and prefers groomed. They were hitting the Ridge and the Tuckerman Chutes pretty hard up there Friday.
