Just took 5 runs at smuggs. I expected to wait 20 minutes at a time in liftlines. Shockingly, there was no wait at all up until about 10:30. The longest wait after that was 5 minutes at 11:00. If anybody out there is still making up their mind about if & where to ski this afternoon, I'll probably head back up about 1:00. I'll be wearing a blue & white jacket and a big smile.

It's snowing like crazy!!

I went skiing, then I went home, then I went back for more skiing. On the way home from part 2, it was snowing like mad. It still is snowing like mad. There was a Subaru wagon in a deep wide ditch on the side of Rt 108, facing the wrong way. Visibility was about 50 feet. It's been a long time since I've seen snow come down like this.

Snow began to fall lightly around 2:30. Around 3 or 3:15 it intensified. When I left the hot tubs/pool at 5:30, the snow was and still is coming down even harder still. There's about 5 inches new so far at 7pm. It still seems to be gaining momentum; I drove to the video store 20 minutes ago and already there's about an inch of white clinging to the windshield.

And it's coming just in time too. For Smugglers anyway. I guess I've been a little spoiled all week by not having to make effort to find loose powder everywhere. This morning and afterenoon, it took minimal to moderate effort to find.

But of course, there's powder in them woods! I found about 20 turns worth of untracked in a space of ignored trees. It was above the boots, below the knees and magically delicious. I've deduced that I now can ski anyplace I ever used to - under one condition: deep powder. This makes me very excited because tomorrow, without a doubt, will be full of just that.
