Nice to hear you had an epic day at Smuggs.

Reminds me of when I was going to school up there in 78 and the "blizzard" hit lower New England.

Smuggs gets often overlooked, but it's a great place in a storm.

Thinking back to last season, I was knee-deep at Jay for my first day of the season at about that same time, which was a hell of start compared to my usual WROD at K-Mart . This year I haven't even strapped them on yet. Now that the holidays are over I'll be scheming to get away for the next monster storm.

No denying your epic day, but is this really true? Isn't Smuggs on the windward side of Mt. Mansfield vs. Stowe on the leeward side? Even though it probably gets more snow, Smuggs very often has a lower proportion of terrain open. Like all of the last 2 weeks for example.

While Madonna can pick up some good wind during a storm, the hike-to woods off Sterling/Spruce down to 108 is always holding the goods.

I said it was a great place in a storm. If there is no snow, it can suck for sure. Stowe is up there as a great place, but people always talk about Jay, Stowe, MRG on powder days. You rarely hear about Smuggs. A slow Madonna double (when it's not shutdown) and great terrain...plus there is always the stuff that isn't on the map.

So Smuggs' virtue vs. the other northern Vermont places is same snow, less competition? An icelantic kind of place. Actually I do remember mapadu's reports from 2001 and they were quite impressive.
