Snowbird Spring Passes/Tix

Since this came up in discussion yesterday at the Alta closing parties, here's the relevant info from Snowbird's site:

Discounted Passes - Unlimited Spring Passes are just $329 while Daily Tickets are now $65. Also, show us your 2012-13 season pass from any other ski resort in the world and your Daily Ticket is just $42!

Assuming Snowbird
* doesn’t go beyond Memorial Day
* and they stick to their historical practice of ending daily ops on the second weekend of May, going to 3-day weekends after that
...there are 19 days left in the Snowbird season, with 10 of them weekend days between now and Memorial Day, including Memorial Day.

As always, how far they may go into June remains a wild-card and, as always, entirely dependent on May temperatures, snowfall, and melting rate.

yeah the $42 deal has been going on for a few weeks now. I believe that on or about May 17 they go to 8am-2pm schedule.

I honestly don't see them going much past Memorial Day if at all past.

For the few more days I will ski it'll be the $42 pass with my alta pass.

I agree. In order to do that, we'd need to be over 500" season total and a settled base of 150" at this time.

Me too. How many more will depend on getting my inflamed achilles tendon under control.

Another bit of info regarding Snowbird and this spring - specifically, parking on the Bypass Road:

Due to construction on the Bypass Road, no parking will be allowed. Please use Chickadee, Superior Lot, or near the Parking Structure if parking at Entry 4.

I do not know how long this will last.

Oh gawd, what a PITA!

Probably another sign of not giving a crap about their spring customers. Of course it wouldn't be as much of a PITA to use the main parking area if Gadzoom or even Wilbere were open.

Do we know the nature of the Bypass Road construction yet? Maybe it's a 5 month project, but if not it could have waited until June.

Almost assuredly it's construction of the new Mountain Coaster which they understandably want up and running this summer.

Update on their site:
Due to construction on the Bypass Road, no parking will be allowed in that area until further notice.
So just a single tiny bit of additional info. Since construction season up there is so short, there is zero motivation to delay till June and actually strong motivation to start any projects as early as possible. Especially if it is for the Mountain Coaster (a significant chunk of which was built last fall) which they will want on-line as quickly as possible, as Marc said.

But this:

When May arrives, skiing is officially restricted to Little Cloud Bowl and Mineral Basin. Anything in Peruvian Gulch and anything below Little Cloud is officially considered backcountry skiing. Snowbird always recommends downloading on the Tram. This has been standard operation for the past dozen seasons. The lot at Entry 2 (the main Tram Plaza/Snowbird Center lot) is rarely if ever full at this time of year. The expectation is that you go up on the Tram and stay up there until you're done. Unlike some other areas, Snowbird simply does not have the spring customer base to make opening additional terrain - with associated staffing (which they no longer have at this time of year) - practical. How are parking restrictions on the Bypass a "sign of not giving a crap about their spring customers"? How is using the main parking area a PITA if you never go back to your car during the day?

Talk to the admin, who with his regular local group, skis top-to-bottom runs at Snowbird as long as snow coverage remains. And who first called the Bypass Road construction a PITA.

As do I. Where they do want you to park is only a minor inconvenience at best and just a few more steps. Not an issue if you're not going back to your vehicle during the day.

Oh, btw, I'm one of those in the regular local group - just not so much this season due to a variety of life events. Why are we italicizing regular? Is it italicize random words day?
