Stowe 3/20something

It was a great day.

Fourrunner didn't open until 11 because wind. Snow much of the day, but by 5 when we were coming off the mountain it had turned blue bird.

It was at least as deep as last Friday at Alta. Probably deeper, without anyone to track it up. Living the dream.

Greg, getting into an extra special little shot.

Back for more goods tomorrow.

here's the round up from yesterday (3.22.08 )

--------

To sum it up, friday was more about face shots, while saturday was a little firmer. No complaints. period.

the only uncool thing about saturday was the attitudinal "no single line" deal trying to be enforced by self appointed headmasters of the gondola line. a.) wtf? b.) it's not like shit wasn't tracked out at the gondi friday . c.) wtf?

anyway on with the action. did some fun recon work to find things we've heard about in legend and myth including the discovery of a magical transport device.

Thanks G. Skiing in the East definitely sucks. 8)

Great pics...WTF about the picture from far far away. Great job.

As for I, I've been stuck in kitchen all day.

thanks patrick. took some work to get that shot... and some luck.

too bad you weren't stuck in the kitchen wall

Can I get some three day in a row action. God damn has it been good out there. Only took four runs today, but somehow we ended up at the matterhorn with our ski boots on at the end of the day, if you know what I mean. Today was a bit less photogenic, not because of conditions, but because one of the cameras was forgotten at home.

From the land of GIANT boulders I emerged.

Sometimes, we allow a snowboarder or two, to follow along. By the end of the day we had her on skis, skiing down the burce (after an 8 year ski hiatus).

Greg has the memory of an elephant. That memory says that face shots are more fun when they are self administered.

Yep, it's the apocalypse in the kitchen.

I was hoping to make it to Tremblant this weekend. It's payback time after the Masters finals yesterday. No car tomorrow either for the last day of this 4-day weekend, probably okay as I have a massive headache and going to bed now. I guess I can have a sick day (for non-skiing purposes) from now and then.

Someone's been going crazy with the "enhance color" feature on his photo software.

lol... yeah i'll admit i pushed the "enhance color" button on microsoft office picture manager b4 uploading these. makes them a little catchier, but also will make them look cooler in case i print them out for my collection ;- )

Wow.

Can I come play with you guys?? :)

We hit Stowe on 3/22 to take advantage of the ski club discount - it was only my third time there, and we had fun checking out the woods. We stopped on Chin Clip to watch the line of hikers going up behind the Gondola....wondered how long it took to hike that, and if I'd ever have the opportunity to be a hiker.....

Awesome pictures!

Some Saturday in April they'll have a canned food drive where it'll be substantially discounted.

Patrick you've got to get down to Stowe one of these days...
and bring Morgane along. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. Penny-wise and pound-foolish IMHO.

Morgane has skied MRG, Tremblant, Whiteface, Smuggs, Bolton on blue ice, Sugarbush on blue ice, Cannon and Wildcat. Yes, she hasn't been to Stowe. Guess what? I haven't been to Stowe since 2005. Is it because I'm cheap?

You're not being realistic Tony. I have a 10yo, she's a good skier, not a super skier, but a very good one for a 10yo. There is also the fact that she isn't the quickest person in the morning.

Do you think she would be able to make it to first chair, climb the Chin via a potential burried bootpack while carrying her skis? Plus ski the type of terrain that they do? She's good, but she isn't supergirl.

And the last time I saw salida and gpetrics, they were first INLINE before the ticket booth opened then they were at the lift maybe 30 minutes before it actually opened. Not saying that it would impossible, but I'm sure that it would be similar to getting Andrew to show up for first chair in the morning and then climbing the ridge at Bridger.

No, but I think she could roll out of bed in a SLC motel and make it up to Alta in time for one of admin's tours. We know Morgane is a better skier than Becky  .

Remember I did have a kid on the same learning curve. Adam's spring breaks:
Age 7: Flew to Durango, skied Crested Butte and Telluride. Andrew was 3 and that trip was a bit much in terms of driving having both of them in the car.
Age 8: New Mexico, first part of the week in Santa Fe and Taos. Then Becky and Andrew flew home while I took Adam on the southern whirlwind tour to Trinity Site, White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns and Ski Apache.
Age 9: 5 days skiing out of SLC, just me and Adam.
Age 10: 5 days over President's weekend at Jackson Hole. We were all on this trip, though Becky and Andrew did not ski some of the days.

There is also the fact that she isn't the quickest person in the morning.
It's amazing how much quicker they are getting up at Snowbird/Mammoth, etc. Wouldn't you be?

I am. Andrew wasn't in July. Not sure how quick my daughter would be?

Andrew has never been that motivated to ski. And since he's gotten big he's had a lot of boot discomfort. After several failed bootfitting attempts, I've suggested that he resume snowboarding in the interest of comfort.

He stayed out longer the last 2 days in Utah snowboarding, and he'll have another shot at Mammoth for 3 days in April.
