contacted stowe vt by email--------
they are expecting over the next 4 days and nights-temps from ZERO to.........18 below!

they WILL be wearing RIME ICE covered hats while making SNOW...........should be pretty decent!

check out the temp on http://www.mountwashington.org/cam/deck/index.php

hate to have to go outside and check the instruments.

holy crap

-26 at whitefield and it is only 9 o'clock and the really cold air will be fri and sat night. Might drop below -40 tonight there. as you all know -40 is the real freezing point where water actually freeze solid and bad things start to happen, this is very extreme. Burke hollow vermont could see a -50 reading later this week. Bundle up cause exposed skin has a tendancy to freeze solid in this type of weather. if your going skiing could be windy to, sounds like fun to me

I'll be at Gore in the Adirondacks tomorrow. Yes. Tomorrow. Temps in Chestertown near there are already in the -18 range. I'll give a report on the cold weather....I love extreme weather conditions, it builds character...right ;)?

-Scott

Ha ha ha. You guys all think its pretty funny? Well, we'll just have to see who wears the pants and who just talks about it this weekend. I will be at JAY saturday and sunday, toughing it out, and I can't wait. You gotta love it when its so cold out that your jacket shell crackles and when you step on the snow you can both hear and feel the loud crunch. If anyone else will be up there let me know so I can look for you.
~Les :-D

Still not able to downhill ski but I will be in Whitefield, NH on saturday Nordic skiing. WHY? cause thats where it will be the coldest (I have a race too) I agree with scott the more extreme the better. Bask in this artic exuberance

Oh and this quote came from the weather statement at the Mount Washington Observatory, you know your nuts when you think a windchill of -66 is pleasant

"Although still dangerously cold outside, things have significantly moderated tonight. Instead of temperatures near -38 F and winds in the 80s mph, we're now at -24 degrees with a wind of 40 mph. So now it's actually somewhat pleasant to be outside... we've had mostly clear skies all night along accompanied by a bright moon that beautifully illuminated the mountains and valleys. And this dry, cold air has allowed for great visibilities between 90 and 100 miles. I haven't tired yet of the looking down at the night scene. The lights from distant cities are definitely a great sight."

haha

I'm heading up to Sugarloaf on Sunday, so I will not be skiing in the extreme cold of this weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting very cold weather to come into the area after the clipper passes by on monday, with possible -30F to
-40F lows and highs below zero. The middle of next week sounds ideal for frostbite, oh well it's good to test your true love for the sport.
Any tips on skiing with children in this extreme cold? Are face masks and other cold weather gear made for 4 year old children? My son loves cold weather and it will be a fight to have him keep on his hat and gloves.

tid bit nippley, huh? it was -28 earlier this week here in MT. it warmed up though. now it's in the 20's and 30's. it hurt to breathe almost when it's that cold. and if you go out riding, you better hope you don't break things on every lap you take. i don't mind the cold that much either, but if that winds kickin, i get the hell inside. that's the killer.....wind. otherwise, just cross your fingers and hope none of your expensive equipment breaks on you. have fun riding ice in the ice.......well, maybe not at J. i'll enjoy riding the 'cold smoke' in the comfortable 20's. don't worry, your snow is on the way.

fyi lesdebski, jay peak closed the hsq yesterday, not because of wind, but because of cold. it was to cold to send skiers up the hill, probably due to the speed of the lift. thats gotta be a first

Headed to the Gulf of Slides sunday! We were going staurday but my buddy was a bit concerned about the cold.Bring it on!No wimps!
((*
*))NHPH

It's was pretty cold skiing in a Master race on Wednesday evening at Camp Fortune, QC (-22.3c at 7:30PM)(167m vertical, only 15 miles from downtown Ottawa). And the wind was blowing too. Two runs in a row non-stop without a coat and warmups (down,up the chair, down and up to finally get my coat)...brrrr!!!! I was in extreme pain when my feet started thawing.

My nose and feet bearly stopped tiggling just in time for tomorrow. My 6yr old daughter starts her ski lessons tomorrow at Vorlage, QC (143m, 25 miles from Ottawa). Lessons are still on. Weather forecast for tomorrow morning -25c. OUCH!!!

For Sunday, I was thinking of going to Tremblant 92/93 runs open (2hr drive) or Whiteface at 50% for the Super Sunday deal ($35US and a 3hr drive). Top of Whiteface seemed down today according to there website.

-25 here in Lake Placid this morning!

Yesterday barely got to zero, so we toured at Tug Hill. Never broke a sweat, and when we stopped for more than a coupla minutes, we got cold real fast and had to push on.

Beautiful day. Nice snow. About 1 foot of pow at Winona State Forest. Snow was too cold for nice glide. Kinda sticky cold.

Now we are in the Adks and trying to figure what to do, drinking coffee and waiting for it to warm up closer to zero. Prolly go for a backcountry tour before heading to VT.

Jay Peak says all the lifts running except the Jet today. I hope tmrw they will be running, as we may head there.

Hi everyone !!

I'm back from a week at Tremblant... with something like 1000 messages to answer yesterday night and I just arrive on FTO ...ouffff

Well, -25F is nothing compared to where I'll be next week... I'm going to Rouyn Noranda for 2 weeks (auditing a mining company). It will be just too much cold. Imagine ... Mont Tremblant is far and cold, coming from USA. I let you see how it is to go 350 miles northern than Tremblant (or so) They forecast some extreme colds, next week. brrrrrrrr -45F or worst on the way
