Well I'll just say that conditions were less than ideal for skiing on Friday. After driving to Waterbury Friday night in a Tropical Downpour, I was somewhat discouraged. When I went outside in the deluge to help my friend dig a trench away from his house to limit the amount of water leaking into his basement, I became even more discouraged.
When we got to the mountain the next morning everything had frozen solid. Not just a crust but solid white snow/ice. They were still grooming at Mt. Ellen when we arrived. The motto of the day would be "it was only $5.50 eh!" :) . The only trails that were open were those that were groomed. These all had good coverage for the mostpart. There were a few places where the tillers had dug in too deep and brought up frozen dirt/gravel. These spots were easily avoided if you stayed near the sides of the trails. I witnessed more than a few people go right over this crap. I can only imagine what the bases of those rentals must look like now. There were a few flurries around but they did not amount to anything. I spent the morning ripping big GS turns on this racer's hardpack until it started to become so icy that I called it a day at 1:00. I got in at least 10 runs. Not many pics as it really wasn't an epic day worth taking pictures of. One of these days I'm going to hit the Bush when Castlerock is open. So far I'm 0 for 3. Hey, it was only $5.50!
