76 trails, 27 inches of snow last week.
:bs: The website says 29 inches season-to-date.

Conditions as of December 07, 2008
1:54 pm
New Snow last 7 days: 3.5 inches
New Snow last 24 hrs: Dusting

But the 59% open is impressive for this early.

guess yer gonna have to pay closer attention tony. on nov 25th, the day i skied 10-14 at sunday river, the loaf picked up 12 with an additional 12 overnight which stayed rain to the south for a storm total of 24 inches. on the following monday or within a 7 day period they got another 6 inches which they reported 3. a friend of mine that was skiing that monday said there was at least 6 of new for a one week total of 30 inches. so if that was the only snow they've had this year, then they've missed some of it in there reporting, so, i seriously think that the season total of 29 inches is b.s. cuz there was at least 20 inches of base on the ground as 60% of the terrain open is on an all natural snow base.
put that in yer pipe and smoke it!

I am suspicious of the 29 inches season-to-date being low. But the 3.5 over the past week makes recent powder claims somewhat suspect.

the powder claims were from 2 weeks ago, hello! clue phone! it must be for you tony. i agree with the suspiciousness of the 29 inches season to date as well. cuz it means that they've only had snow during that one thanksgiving week. some mountains out here only claim what they get at the base and when a snowreporter has a day off, lots gets missed. when i worked at burke a few seasons ago, they only had 1 snow reporter that worked 4-5 days a week and he had no clue even when he was there. he more often than not asked me for totals and some days he wouldn't even report the new unless it was significant.
hey joegm!

This is one of the few times I've heard there is a problem with UNDERreporting of snowfall at eastern ski areas.

some mountains out here only claim what they get at the base
But many report from as high an altitude as they can get at, Killington for example. I don't have a particular problem with where areas report snowfall, as long as they tell me where it is. Then I show that elevation along with lift served elevation range so readers can draw their own conclusions.

I do get monthly stats from Sugarloaf at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how they compare.
