Tony, your points are well taken. I was not trying to insult Joe's ability (everyone had to learn at some time), but its obvious that the thorough trashing he gave Sugarloaf wreaks of someone who just doesn't ski much. Clearly, an experienced Eastern skier going to a mountain that far away in mid to late April would at least look a a weather report or as you suggest get some insider info, rather than relying on a website report. Fact is, that everyone that skis alot knows that those reports on a given day can be a inaccurate. Actually, Sugarloaf for the most part does some pretty honest reporting, especially compared to other ASC mountains. I ski at the Loaf every weekend and they are guilty of not keeping their website reports updated when weather is changing quickly.......this is a particular problem when the wind picks up. Windholds can be a problem at the Loaf and I know many people that have done that 400 mile drive only to find out the have to ride a T-bar to ski the upper mountain. Skiing's a weather bet. All you can do is the best you can do !!....Shit happens! Its an outdoor activity that is subject to changing conditions and you need to be able to adapt to them. Its not like going to a theme park, where everyone is guaranteed a good time .
I agree with you that his overall evaluation of the mountain is way off the mark, especially after one day of skiing........it just lacks credibility. Sounds like Killington is closer for him...I recommend that he keep going there .
