Sunday River is now open

Going back a few posts, I don't recall saying SR can't open in a short period. Just that I doubted that it would be an 18" base that went edge to edge in such a short time. I didn't see any pics attached to disprove my hypothesis yet...

I'd love to be proven wrong...

Btw, hot week in florida this week ;)

it was def not 18" edge to edge base. there were rocks, grass and ice chunks all over the place. the snow that was there was soft and enjoyable tho. kinda techy.

I'm guessing then that this weekend will be a no-go with the weather back there?

well, seeing as they opened after 19 hours of blowing on no base at all last week, i'd say that if/when temps drop to the mid twenties tomorrow night and are cold enough on saturday night, they may get it going again. there is at least half coverage to work with, i think 8-[

i talked to my buddy dave today. he does all of the vid work and snow reports there. he says if they open for halloween, it'll be free skiing if you wear a costume. i'd have to think tey'd go for it. as of now, sundays weather is looking kinda crappy so who knows?

will be pretty desperate fer sure, but a fun time either way. beer still tastes the same

SR is going to make the call tomorrow afternoon if they are opening or not this weekend. It was pretty warm the last few days, but temps have started to cool again...well here anyway.

I forgot to comment that SR's recent commitment to the early openings makes Patrick's Octobers a lot less speculative now than I thought in the early years of his streak.

Tony, did you read my TR?

4 or my 5 Eastern Octobers have been on 100% Natural snow (5 of 6 ski days), the exception was last year October 15th at SR. Oh yeah, the year I went to ski artificial snow in Colorado, SR opened on Halloween making the first Ociober skiing for them in a while I believe.

From the Website:

Today at Sunday River

Well…good and bad news.

Let’s start with the good news. The good news is that it looks like we may get a window to make some more snow tonight. The bad news is that this window appears to be short and if you remember the 19 hours it took for us to make enough snow to open last Friday, it appears as though we’re not going to have enough time to reopen tomorrow.

That said, all is not lost. Our snowmakers are all on high alert and will be here to pull the snowmaking trigger as soon as temperatures allow. Should we be able to make enough snow to open tomorrow, tomorrow afternoon, or even Sunday, we will .... This is meant to track all snowmaking efforts throughout the entire season and our hope is to see a seven day a week operation as soon as humanly possible.

(Admin ... is it fair to assume that this kind of stuff can be posted? It's not the whole piece and it is linked back. I'd assume SR would be ok with it, but if you know differently go ahead and edit.)

Absolutely. What concerns me is where our users potentially violate a copyright issue. What you're doing here is helping to spread SR's marketing message -- they can only be pleased by that.
