Hey Guys,

I normally don't ask for this type of info, but I'd really like to know. I'm skiing at Sunday River over January quite a bit...I've skied there before but never found anything nout of the ordinary to say...

Is there anywhere I should be looking. PM me or email me at haney_port@bentley.edu

thanks guys(and gals)

Sunday River's acerage is 90% trees and 10% trail, and most of that 90% looks skiable, but I've only really been there when all the skiing was on manmade...

There is a LONG traverse that runs from Jordan Bowl back to the North Peak, "Lights Out," and it looks like you can drop in just about anywhere along it. There are a couple on-the-map glades in the area, but I expect there is a lot more skiing once those get tracked out. I'm probably not giving anything away, when I have been there midwinter I've never seen any tracks dropping off it.

Then again, I seem to find a lot of cruisy, powder-catching trees at resorts that get ignored by everyone else. That probably means something, though I'm not sure quite what...

If you meant "steep", well, they don't really have much of that... I'll take good snow over steep any day, but I'm becoming an old fart.

right on, I seem to remeber the traverse, last time I was there I had to be 8. Thanks. (As long as there is snow I don't care how shallow tne degree is)!

if you pull up their trail map, i'd recommend staying on the "right" side of the stretch. aurora, oz, and jordan have decent trees and the lift lines are excellent if they are open by then. plus, it's further away from the majority of the traiffic i have found. white cap is 'okay', i don't like the glades on white cap at all. they look tempting from the top, but unless you pick the right line they are hard to navigate through (some people like that i guess, heh). i have had fun on agony lift line trail, but that's about the only trail mid-mountain that is worth a hill of beans. i took a nasty trip down spruce cliffs one year when there wasn't much snow on it... might be good if the snow is nice. other than that, stick to oz and jordan.

they have cliffs there? now we're talkin. yeehaw!

thanks for the replies here folks. i plan to go there next wednesday with my bro who is still learning how to tele. should be an interesting day to watch him........and since it's the first time ever i've been able to get out with him. glad he picked up teleing.

any other suggestions of where to avoid crowds would be good. looking for trails to poach and steep scary shots. if i recall, there was atleast one trail that was super steep. probably not enough coverage yet though. hopefully the next storm early next week will drop something good.

I haven't skied Spruce Cliffs since it went "in bounds" about 7 or 8 years ago. I think the lines are a little more open now (from what I can see from the chair). It takes a LOT of snow.

Great fun when it's good :)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I wont be up there till after new years but I'll be sure to keep all of this in mind!

PS Just finished the last final, looks like 35 straight days of skiing on the horizon
