I went to Sutton as soon as the highway reopened on Friday, and conditions are extraordinary for this time of the year - if you're willing to hike.

Its funny how Granby, a nearby city, got virtually nothing, while so much snow has fallen here. About 35-40 cm (14-16 inches) fell, though the strong winds made it such that coverage varied from 2 to 50 inches...

On Friday, it was late when I arrived, so I only hiked to the top of chair #2, and went down Sutton-Ik. It was a bit deceiving, as the depth of the snow and the gentleness of the slope made anything other than straight line too slow.

Today, though, was a completely different story. A further 2-3 inches fell during the night and the morning, and provided much better gliding.

I got to parking Alt. 520m at 1:30PM, only to find that there were about 25 cars already there. It was o.k. though - the mountain is big enough for that many people when lifts aren't running. I did two runs: one was Dynamique-Sousbois V-Alpine, and the other was Escapade-Iroquois-Sousbois Miracle. Both were superb: plenty of snow to play with, with some drifts to go through. I hit the earth a few times though, but that's why rock skis exist...

And as a general info, snowmaking has started on Sutton-ik and Allouette-Cascade. Today, this didn't all seem that important.
