Taos Ski Valley, December 14 Openning

Openning day 2007 appears to be describable as "Better late, than whatever".

73" base as of 5PM 12/11/07
63" last 3 days (thank God!)
24" last 24 hours

Only way it could be better was for this mega dump to happen prior to Thanksgiving originally scheduled openning. Ski you in Taos.

He might be right this time. The snow has come to the Southwest in big dumps rather than the usual steady but small doses of fluff.

Wolf Creek has had 117 inches so far in December.

Silverton is also claiming 100+, but there has been suspicion of their reporting in recent years.

Crested Butte is opening some of the Extreme limits this weekend. This terrain opens by Christmas in about 15% of seasons.

All of the Aspen areas are over 50% open, also unusual this early.

If the 73 inch base depth is real, we should see a high percent of Taos open. We'll check this weekend to see how much. Taos did not do well on the December 1-2 storm, but the more recent storm could be different. Sometimes they do get big dumps.

The only thing better than skiing Taos is doing it while reaping the benefits of Pro Vitamin Complete Liquid Nutrition!

This is deserved.

The SW has not had any really banner early seasons in a long while - late 90s or so. Coming in a La Nina year too!

I would believe these totals. They match Fed Government site quite well - which is a mile to two away.

Silverton also gets great wind-loading from westerlies being a north-south ridge.

Almost 11" of water in Dec.

And 100 -> to a 60" base is belivable
