Full report to follow, but awesome day, sunburnt, beer drinking at the top of sluice after a killer boot pack (never going up that way again) and then a sick run down skiers right of the headwall...

oh and about 15 people jumped off the big part of the headwall circa 40 feet, 3 landed...

Runout isnt going to last long.

Great Pics.

It was an amazing day up there. Best weather I've ever seen.

We climbed Right Gully and up the snowfields to just a couple hundred feet below the summit. Snowfields were in great shape. Had nice turns down to the Lip. There was a bit of a logjam at the top of the lip, because a guy had decided to hike straight up the middle of the headwall. After he realized his mistake, he climbed very slowly backdown. Once that cleared out everyone started pouring over the Lip. As usual I watched 3-4 people in a row do the same thing....try to check all their speed at the top of the roll, loose it, and tumble out of sight. Even though I couldn't see them, the groans and cheers echoing up the bowl told the story. I opted for straight-lining the steepest section to avoid the same fate. Great plan until I got below the lip and was going WAY too fast. Made two decent turns, then got pushed off my toe edge by a bump. Started sliding fast. But there was no way I was wasting all that hiking just to slide all the way down. Slid a quick 50' and opted for the always risky "edge jam". I was either going to salvage this or ragdoll to my death. Got the edge to stick...didn't go over the handlebars! Linked decent turns to the bottom...I think (hard to tell through snow-caked sunglasses).

Sherburne was packed with people and dogs, but in decent shape. Soft bumps all the way. Only the very last pitch had no availble snow lines. Although I did see some people making decent mud-turns.

Saw Plake up there. He was looking a little lost at HoJo's. He asked one the of the rangers, "Hey have you seen someone with a big camera come through here?" I guess he was one one of the many who hucked the icefall.

Hard to imagine a better day.

A few more pics from the day.

smaller resolution images could help page load speeds here... i just got a time out error and i have decent dial up speeds....

I concur with riverc0il -- it timed out on my Treo today. Please be sure to use something like 30% JPEG compression (some photo editors would call that 70% quality) to posted images.

there are some links instead of pics, ill reduce them down next time, sorry guys, being at school I have an extremely fast connection, and I forget what its like to be home, sorry about that

Hmmmm, nice looking. Tucks is actually one possibility for me this coming weekend. We don't have much choice left here.

5 ski areas open in the province (possibly a 6th one near the chic-chocs).

Christophe and a few of ZoneSki may go back to the Valinouet for the final weekend, after the wonderful epic incredible last weekend. The other ones open are St-Sauveur, Mt Comi (far far far), Mont Sainte-Anne (great choice for this weekend) and possibly Mt Orford.

There is still a lot of snow left on the whole mountain at La Réserve. So my choices for this weekend look like :

#1 : MSA
#2 : La Réserve and other mountains for hike & ski
#3 : Tucks (less probable because quite a big trip) but everyday I think about it and I would like it a lot... ;)

Yes, I am pretty sure to go back this weekend to le Valinouet...I'll do a report very soon of last weekend :)

Now I really have to go ski Washington
