WF 1/9/10

Today was a great day here at WF. It was cold, but the snow was a perfect packed powder to start the day. After a whole day of skiing it got a bit skied off and was a bit scratchy in the late afternoon.

Looking sweet! Gonna hit Whiteface for the first time this coming Sunday, can't wait!

Let me know how it is. It got pretty wind scoured last sunday, but I'd be interested in knowing if they got nice and soft the way it was Saturday.

Make sure your edges are sharp! It's a fun big mountain, but conditions can sometimes be challenging on account of its exposure. Being a holiday weekend, expect big lines for the gondi. Best to not come down after your first ride up and then use the Summit quad or the Lifts from the mid-station lodge. Check out Lookout area too for tree skiing. There are only 4 glades at WF as the woods up there are pretty dense.

If you want some good and more varied tree skiing, head down to Gore. The trees are skiing really well and are a nice reprieve from the groomers, though last weekend, the snow on the groomers was excellent.

They are also planning to open up Burnt Ridge, which could be really nice.

I was there today, stellar day, warm temps made for nice soft snow and spring conditions. Just got in, I'll post pics tomorrow.

Looks like there was some serious inversion there.

Yep, always wanted to experience that, got a little bit of it once on Mt. Washington. But never like yesterday, the view was unbelievable seeing all the High Peaks poking through the clouds.

Could you see the green mountains? Mansfield and Mount Ellen are always easy to catch on a clear day, but I wonder if they were peeking up through the clouds.

Actualy, I did take a quick look towards VT for those two. But, alas, it was a quick look, didn't spot them immediately and was having too good a time skiing to look again. :-D That's ok, this coming week I may hit Mount Ellen and look for Whiteface :-D

You'll find the view of Whiteface better from Bolton.
