Wildcat- monday was epic... there were 3 ways down with the best being lift lion to to blackcat to panther to the chutes...by 1030 it was blue sky and soft corn... would not have known of the impending doom to come
Loon on tuesday- began pouring rain on the way home from cat to lincoln.. the plan was for 5 straight at cat for the week.. the gm put up a sign on monday about 2pm that said they were gonna close tues wed thurs... weather made it silly to travel anywhere.. tuesday was tied worst day of the year with a few of the insane days in jan at K in minus 30... tuesday saw the massive amount of rain that fell mon night freeze up.. made it just about unskiable everywhere.. they had shut of the hsq and were spinning the g and the triple only.. made 5 runs on rutted frozen treachery and threw it in
wed at loon- not epic , but glorious... overcast and about 55 which dried out lower flume enough... soft mush bumps with super tight lines all day off the triple....thurs much of the same but not until noon as it got cold and froze up.. it was blue bird at 6am but took 6 hours for it soften...
wildcat on friday- back to cat to examine how much of a beating it took on the rain days.. held up well and the basic line of l lion to b cat to panther to chute was still intact with some careful turns... big fat v wagons on top... zippered out baby food bumps on panther to chute... stayed at cat for sat and sun, only becasue the feeling was no one was going to show up.. and, predicatably, no one did... blue bird and about a high of 55 each day... about 100 skiers on each day and the gm we talked to at cat said he just couldn't spin the lifts after sunday... what a joke it is that he was right on the money...2000 vert of soft corn bumps on the raddest terrain and the fastest hsq on the right coast and no one to ski it.. very sad indeed.
Killington on mon tuesday, wed...mon was hot.. almost too hot.. about 70 at the base...blue bird .. very crowded with a lot of mass residents and a seemily lot of family skiers with little kids... lots of credit to be given ... they were spinning k1, s star and glades 3... how they were calling it 54 trails was beyond me.. i think they are calling it about 30 now... it was and remains about 4 ways down.. best of which are the obvious superstar and bittersweet... good sized bumps off the headwall of SS leading to the flat out section.. skiers left has really rutted zippered bumps all the way down to the top part of the lower headwall, that , frankly, suck... they groomed out skiers right at bottm of upper headwall and threw up some rails... bumps starting to form up and moving skiers r to l towards the zippered out lines by the lift...looks like they tried to groom out the middle to keep recreational people interested... bottom headwall has the largest bumps but the most consistent lines... frank's photo was accurate.. status report for SS as of wed at 4 pm, from top to bottom.. headwall skiers right has grass moving left for about 20 % of the trail... plenty of snow on the headwall once u drop in...bottom of upper headwall on far skiers left has some bad grass spots opening up... middle section down to lower headwall has plenty of snow , but crappy lines... bottom headwall has no snow under the lift and for about 10 feet to the skiers right of the lift... but when it does start to have snow.. it appears to be quite a bit.... a large pile of reserve is present at the bottom and should help out with skiing onto the lift... but the headwall and the top of the middle may be a problem in about 10 days or so, depending on the weather... tuesday was glorious, and would have been epic except SS lift was down till aobut 1130 with electical problems and there was nothing but garbage off the k1....wed was epic with blue sky and about 50 for a high....off for 7 days from our 9 day trip , back on wed for 3 from K.. go skiing during the best time to ski, support K!!!!!

there's something to be said when more people are earning their turns accross the notch than skiing the cat. glad to see the cat made it this long... when i skied there on or abouts march 27th, i was predicting they would only last till the 11th.

i agree, and what i would say, is that it is ridiculous... the gm said they would have stayed open another week if they could get at least 100 people... dateline - month of january- temp between minus 20 and 0 f... wait at lift line- anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes/ skiers on hill, thousands/ ski surface- maybe pp, slight chance of powder/ likely boilerplate windscoured hardpacked ice..... dateline- 2nd /3rd week of april.. temp 55f and sunny.. wait at lift line- none/ skiers on hill, count em on 2 hands/ ski surface, soft carveable corn... unbelievable... something is just not right in this industry
