Your 2006-07 Ski Day Count

http://bestsnow.net/vertfeet.htm lists top vertical and powder vertical days lifetime. I'll update for this year soon. The two big heli days Alyeska Mar. 25 and Wiegele Feb. 9 will go to the top of the powder list. The 40,700 at Bachelor Apr. 15 and the 32,600 at Vail Apr. 2 will make the vertical list.

I'm considering putting up another page organizing more info about the top combined vertical + powder days. Most of these could refer to FTO reports, with a few Southland Ski Server references, and just a few older ones that I would have to write up. I think there are about 30 days that would make that list, including the first 3 mentioned above from this season plus Feb. 19 Solitude (23,000 + 13K powder) and Mar. 23 Alyeska (24,600 + 11K powder). So despite the crummy year in California I have little to complain about personally in 2006-07.

The explanations of the new page would be helpful in showing when the vertical + powder totals were indicative of quality and what the exceptions were. The obvious case is snowcat skiing, which rarely racks up enough vertical (2 of my lifetime 25 days) to get over a numerical cutoff though quality can be very high. And backcountry, unless you're Greg Hill.

What about Top 5 in terms of most visited ski areas? However, given your travel, maybe you don't have a handful of places - other than Mammoth - that stand way above the rest.

Mammoth 228 days, 4,870K vertical
Mt. Baldy 56 days, 1,071K vertical
Snowbird 48 days, 1,052K vertical
Snow Summit 39 days, 703K vertical
Mt. High 27 days, 450K vertical
Mt. Bachelor 17 days, 448K vertical
Heavenly 18 days, 366K vertical
Alta 19 days, 312K vertical
Squaw 16 days, 304K vertical
I also have 15 days and 343K at Whistler/Blackcomb, evenly divided between the two areas that I count separately.

This info is all on the regional click through pages, also broken out by season through 2006, but the above includes this season also.

Lifetime is now 823 days, 15.9 million vertical, so Mammoth is 30%, no other single area over 7%.

here is my sad count:
15 total
Blue Mountain, Ontario-3
Holimont, NY-1
*Smuggler's Notch-1
*Stowe-1*
Panorama-3
*Deer Valley-1
*PCMR-1
*Canyons-1
*Powder Mountain-1
*Solitude-1
*Alta-1
*= first time resort
considering that my ski season didn't start until the middle of Jan. and ended on Mar. 6, I am surprised that I even made it to 15.

hi i'm new here.

i got 44 days this season, mostly at Copper.

Hi! I coach at Copper so that's where I spent most of my days but also throwing in some at Loveland, A-Basin, Keystone, Breck, Vail and Beaver Creek. I got in at least 33 days (I have some days I think I forgot to mark down but am not sure).

Well, last Saturday made 74 total, but while that seemed like the end Skidog is getting the upper hand in getting me out late tomorrow. We have a storm moving in with up to 10" forecast above 8,000 feet. So maybe I'll just round it off to 75. 8)

Data
Area Count of Area Sum of Vertical Sum of Powder
Alta 33 345.8 109
AltaBird 3 29.6 3
Altabird/Solitude 1 14 7
Brighton 1 9 0
Canyons 4 37.4 0
Park City 6 78.1 2
Powder Mt. 2 31.3 15
Snowbird 15 163.9 46
Solitude 8 54.6 7
Grand Total 73 763.7 189
I've sent admin this pivot table and source data, and he has not shown me the "missing" day. TC

My season was pathetic.

Even counting Chile last summer, a week in Colorado skiing Monarch, a short trip to Mt Baker, and two midweek trips to Sugarloaf, I doubt I was much over 40 days. Before February 1, I'd only skied two days using my season pass. I missed the whole month of April and that was when the skiing was good.

From Down Under

25 Days

Utah
7 Snowbird
2 Alta
1 Snowbasin

New Zealand
7 Treble Cone
2 Coronet Peak
1 Cardrona
4 Turoa
1 Snow Farm
[/B]

I thought I did better, but see I only logged 17 days total: 15 skiing and two boarding

Kirkwood 4
Heavenly 2
Sugar Bowl 2 (both times without my friend who has a pass there)
Sierra Tahoe 2 (with 3 and then 58 inches powder)
Tahoe Donner (boarded with two fifteen year-old on $8 tickets, first time on lifts although I tray raced there in 70s when living nearby)
Park City
Deer Valley
Snowbird
Canyons
Alpine
Northstar (boarded the Backside three times)

Looking for 25 or more in upcoming winter as I have Heavenly pass and plan a week in Colorado.

Today brought a close to my 2006-07 season, as updated in my profile.

Noteworthy records set:
Fewest days skied in California, 5.
Most areas skied in one season, 28.
Most new areas, 12.

Lifetime area count is now 133. I think I`m gaining on ChrisC, but I have a long way to go.

Nope, it's after Sept. 1, so this marked the beginning of your 2007-08 season.

We´ve had this discussion before. Sept. 30 was the consensus cutoff. I´d make an exception only for someone skiing fresh northern snow in September, which I realize admin did last year. But the year before admin´s September snow in Pipeline Bowl was far from fresh IIRC.

I think the objective should be to put southern snow and northern leftovers in the prior season and new northern snow in the new season. Sept. 15 might be the best fixed cutoff date, as few northern skiers will be in the southern hemishere any later than that.

I'm with Tony on this one. The only way to put September in the new season is if it's fresh snow in the Northern Hemisphere. Actually the cut-off of the season (if someone skied both Hemispheres) should be latest day in this person South Hemisphere season (in September or later). For example, If I stayed a whole season in the South Hemisphere and skied October 15th in Chile, that shouldn't be included in the new season, but more like the old one. However if someone skied at Kmart on October 1st (hypothetically speaking, of course) then that would count as a day in the new season.

Unless the person starts counting the Southern Hemisphere season before (and not after) the Northern Hemisphere season (ie. 2007 is part of 2007-08 and not 2006-07).

My own example:
1st day: October 25th at Jay / last day: September 9th at Arpa, Chile

I finished my season at 54 days.
